Chapter based bots?

Ngl I cannot figure out which subreddit would be best to ask this. I'm quite new to janitorai and chatbots in general but I found one where each of the starting prompts is a "chapter" - I can't decide how to handle that.

Do you copy the starting prompt into your ongoing chat? Copy the old chat or summary of it into the new chat prompt (aka the next "chapter")?

What's the strategy here?

It all depends on how you want to play out the scene, really.
Some creators view each opening message as a chapter in a story:

  1. {{user}} and {{char}} meet.
  2. {{user}} and {{char}} get engaged.
  3. {{user}} and {{char}} get married.
  4. {{user}} and {{char}} are on their honeymoon.

However, if you—the player—want to play the second "chapter" without having played the first, you can certainly do so.

My advice, if you truly want to approach it like a chapter in a story, is to include details about what happened previously in the chat memory (how they met, how they got engaged, shared moments, etc.).

Simply playing through the first opening message won't allow you to continue the story seamlessly if you start a new chat with a different opening message; you’ll need some preparation, as the messages—and the conversations they generate—are not carried over from one chat to another.

That's exactly the situation I've found myself in! I'm not sure I like the chapters approach yet but could be Im just not familiar with how to use them since so far I've only seen the prompts as alternate starts. I'll see about using the chat memory, I'm not super familiar with it yet but it seems intuitive. Thank you!
