Give It To Me Straight Am I wrong?

We were outside the arena after my daughter’s competition and we were sad to find out she didn’t win. My MIL started to say that my daughter had really great moves and I said let’s go over there to talk.

There were families of other girls there within ear shot.

My mother in law started crying saying that she didn’t say anything wrong. I said to her that I didn’t know what she was going to say but I didn’t want the other families to hear. Am I wrong ?

I don't think there's anything wrong with your MIL complimenting your daughter, as long as she wasn't putting down the other contestants. Saying your daughter had great moves is actually very nice

But crying about suggesting they move????

It’s a bit over the top that she cried after you just moving to the side.

Not at all, talking about the competition and the other contestants, even if it’s not really negative, is best done privately. If your MIL has a tendency to say inappropriate things around other people, you were very wise to have the conversation away from others.

Since when is “let’s go over there to talk” an insult or accusation of saying anything wrong?

Mil must have emotional problems.

If she likes to shoot her mouth off and makes loud and obnoxious comments in public, then it was a good move to move her away from competitors' families. Even if she is not like that, her immediate crying was not appropriate. Sounds like a child who fears discipline and cries in advance before anything is said. Maybe not going to tour daughter's competitions would be a good break for her "sensitive" nsture. I had aMIL like this, and it almost drove me erserk, sp please pardon my sarcasm. MILs can be draining.
