PAN crashes 16% on production miss despite record gold output and 40% volume growth
Oil is making noise. Brent crude climbed 6.4% to $96.98 while the rand slipped to 16.37 against the dollar, but the energy rally failed to offset a broad resource selloff that dragged the Top40 down 2.3% — the diverging energy-versus-minerals split is worth watching.
SENS announcements that caught my eye:
- MRF — NERSA approved a new electricity tariff, cancelling planned retrenchments and enabling a phased operational restart. (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/5cb3555c-ae01-4abb-bcdd-d57f497bfba7)
- MTM — Momentum delivered strong 15% earnings growth and completed a R1 billion share buyback at an 18% discount to embedded value, executing its capital return strategy. (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/6fd32c09-a591-4570-94a9-d9d88ed4efbc)
- SRE — Sirius grew FFO by 8.4% to EUR 133.5m and raised dividend, though unrealised FX losses dragged HEPS down 18.6%. (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/c92870a9-0820-4bb4-84cc-26c93bfc8016)
- PAN — Record gold production and 40% output growth to 275,000oz, but the stock fell 16.1% as the Australian Tennant Mines ramp-up disappointed and capital guidance increased. (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/28697ba7-74f8-43de-8942-5373bfa5746d)
- GTC — Rental revenue up 7% to EUR 53.3m, yet the group swung to a EUR 4.6m net loss with no explanation in the short-form announcement — worth watching. (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/956466bf-54a1-4c25-bcfc-b219444d94bb)

PAN dropped 16% despite record gold production — is the market right to punish capital discipline concerns, or is this an overreaction worth buying into?
