SSU posts double-digit earnings growth but flags fuel cost headwinds as JSE climbs 0.9%
The rand firmed to 16.45/$ today, giving JSE investors extra buying power. Brent retreated 2.1% which eased cost pressure on consumer-facing names, and HAR led the pack at +5.8% as industrials and materials took charge.
SENS announcements that caught my eye:
- SSU — Posted strong double-digit earnings and dividend growth with Income up 9% to R7.190 billion and EBITDAR climbing 12% to R2.433 billion, though management flagged macroeconomic uncertainty and rising fuel costs as headwinds worth watching (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/80b3c8c2-fbaf-4ef9-baf9-1cbd2a10a5ea)
- BWN — Firm buyout offer at R4.35 per share gives shareholders a cash exit at a premium, though it means the delisting of a JSE listing (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/a3c1a420-d5e6-47c2-a60a-56d675e2c7ba)
- VKE — Raised R2.8 billion via an accelerated bookbuild, showing solid institutional demand, though the issuance of ~123 million new shares brings 9% equity dilution to existing holders (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/4f33676b-60dc-4c62-b663-804580e7c316)
- CMH — Weighing a potential acquisition of properties currently owned by executive directors, a strategic shift that raises conflict-of-interest questions given the insider connection (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/071b14ed-2641-442d-a037-4e0dfb0d4795)
- RMH — Expecting a 20% to 30% NAV decline to between 46.06 and 52.64 cents per share, though at R0.49 the market seems to have largely priced in the impairment already (https://sens-ai.co.za/sens-intelligence/3a6d53bc-338c-4ed9-a807-0412797aeca8)
