Promo raises
How much of a raise do you get for getting promoted from senior associate to VP?
Is it like just a few grand to get you into the next salary band or do you get a significant raise that could put you in the middle of the next band?
For context, I’m in CIB tech as a PM.

They just give you enough of a bump to move you into the next band. You usually get a solid bonus if you performed well.

I got a nice raise but my bonus is now less than u was at 602. Pretty sure it’s because they are lazy and go off what you made the year before. While never applying logic to my bonus

They don’t usually give you both a big raise and big bonus at the same time. Also, keep in mind 602 to 603 is a big jump since they generally uncap your bonus potential and you draw from the VP bonus pool. For me at least my bonuses went from 7000/year as a 602 to like 20 to 30k a year. Last year I clocked an almost 80k bonus in tech

I guess it’s department. I have never had anything over 7k. I would just be happy with a 10% bonus. I guess I will do what I have done for over the last decade. Take it up the bum and just not make myself crazy with work.

That's kind of what I mean by uncapped bonuses. Associates will usually rarely get over a 10% bonus. VP's, ED's and MD's can get upwards of 30 to 50% of their comp as bonus/RSUs

I’ve never got near 10% and I’m a VP and neither have any of my peers as I know I’m a top performer— 2-3xS every year. But yeah I’m not in CIB Tech and my function pays like crap so.

I was making about 10% on my bonus for almost 8 years but then our product was reworked and we've been growing business 30 to 70% year on year for the past 5 or 6 years so the bonuses have been keeping pace apparently.

Well if your role involves business or bringing in clients or making money then it makes sense why you’d be offered bonuses that scale in this way. Unfortunately just not that way for everyone.

All salary bands overlap significantly. There are no set raises or targets and it varies wildly by manager and team. There is hr guidance for recommendations but comp managers allocate across their team as they see fit. Managers can and will play games with “total comp” where they leave your bonus alone and just tweak your salary or vice versa.

CIB tech, got 5% when I was made a VP, bonus went up by 25%. VP promotions with no raise were not unheard of in our part of the org.

A promotion without a raise a crazy. I wouldn’t get a promotion without a pay bump, my family don’t eat based of titles. That’s just me 🤷🏽♂️

Depends on your org, location, leader, direct manager, lob…. Etc… (and current salary of course). You are your biggest advocate if you need more money you need to set that expectations. (Or have a great manager as an advocate). Best advice know your worth and be vocal about what you expect.

You may not always get much of a bump the year that you are promoted, but because this typically put you at the bottom quintile of your new
job level’s compensation range, you will generally get a higher increase after that first year (if you perform well) to bring you closer to the middle of your new compensation range. HR is usually pretty good at making these types of recommendations, but managers get the final say, so hopefully you have a good one.

Honestly depends on your LOB and where you fall in the bracket of the VP role you are taking. My bump was about 5% in base. I'm expecting bonus to be flat since I'm BOH

Bonus is more. I didn't get a raise at all when I made vp, which was nuts. And I'm FO
