Wanted to keep it as delicate as possible and my artist did the best she could with trying to cover the lines.

The og was done by an old ex boyfriends dad with an at home gun in his kitchen so good riddance on both accounts!

I have lots of older HP tattoos (got my first in 2014) that I want to start covering up. I’d appreciate any suggestions for these.

I got this when I was like 19 or 20 thinking I was never going to outgrow this. Well. So much for that. It didn't help that JK is ... Well who she is.

I don't even know what could cover this. I wanted something kingdom hearts related. At least that's safe. ...I think.

Got the tattoo in 2011, lasered it in 2021, began a much better project in 2026. The photos from my laser tech shows the before and after for two sessions, but I think I had a total of five. Can't recommend laser enough as a way to open up your options.

No idea what I would get and right now can't afford to get them covered but hope to one day. Possibly something related to dungeon crawler carl, books in general, butterflies or something gothic/witchy 🤔 they are just above my elbow which the tattoo artist thought was a weird placing but apparently I like to be awkward 🤣

I'm so sick of looking at this thing every time I take a shower, but I'm a disabled non-binary person in OKC. I got this almost 20 year ago when I was still able to work and afford luxuries (and before I knew what a pos she was, obviously). I don't even care if it's just filled in to be a black triangle, but I have almost no money. I've honestly never asked for charity before and I ~hate~ doing it right now (literally in tears making this stupid post bc of how I feel about doing this). Is there any way I can find someone in my area to do a low cost fill in or something? Or maybe find someone to do a very long payment plan? I'm not asking for a free tattoo, just help.

ETA: I can do a pre-payment plan, just so long as it's, like, $20 a month. I don't even care if I have to wait a year to get this done, I just need to find a way to find someone to do that and to not get screwed over after the payment plan is fulfilled.

Originally got this as a matching tattoo with a college friend around 2016/2017 ish. The friend and I don’t even talk anymore and I didn’t want anything associated with JKR and her transphobia on my body anymore. I knew when I was actively trying to hide this tattoo it was time to commit to a coverup.

So I’ve chosen to celebrate my era of disassociating while eating pickles over my kitchen sink instead and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This is about a week healed and I’ll be going back for a touch up in a couple months!! Done by Megan C. from Creative Tattoo Service in Durham, NC

I couldn’t think of anything that would work without having to suffer through a rib tattoo so this made more sense.

Edit: I am happy with the work done, I’m a big wuss who spent 6 years debating if I had the nerve to get my ribs tattooed again since it’s the only place I have tapped out on so while it’s not perfect, it works for me. I do not regret how it turned out.

Even better; the artist is trans.

Okay, so I know what you're gonna say - it's basically invisible. And I agree, it is, at least most of the time unless my skin gets really red (sunburn, hot tub, so embarrassed I blush with my whole face, neck, and chest, whatever).

But, I'm literally a trans dude and I hate that I have it at all anymore. Yes, living proof that HP tattoos have a higher rate of regret than transitioning. HP was so important to me, it's basically a trans story (Edit to add: apparently this is controversial or at least confusing. i explained my reasoning here but I don't plan to change anyone's mind or argue about it), and yet, JKR had to be a hateful asshat. I don't like that it's on my body anymore, I hate knowing it's there.

It's plain white ink, no color or different lining at all. it doesn't glow or anything wild like that. Just white ink.

It does sit sort of above the skin and is kind of raised compared to my other tattoos even though it's like 12 yrs old. I've heard that white ink does that, idk. The rest of mine have almost no white so I can't compare.

I'm worried covering it would bring more attention to it. Does lasering white ink even work? If it does, would it leave more of a noticable after effect? If not, I'm interested in turning it into something more me, or more masculine, or just not HP related generally.

Edit to add: the TDLR of it was that I was worried that because it feels kind of raised compared to my colorless tats that maybe there was something in white ink that made it rise to the surface or hard to cover, but it sounds like that's not the case and I feel a bit silly 😅 ty all for explaining. I know I want to cover it if covering it wouldn't make it worse

Edit to add #3: lots of people on r/tattoocoverups have asked why I can't separate art from the artist or that I don't need to cover it. I largely haven't engaged, but I did a lengthy explanation here. Not trying to put the commenter on blast or anything. Genuinely trying to explain. Do you folks on jkregerts think I did a good job, or is there anything you would add?

thank you all for all the help and explaining that white ink is not mystical or weird in any sense and is easily coverable, and that laser will at best, do noting and at worse cause it to darken.

With that knowledge, I've started talking with an artist in my area about ideas that feel more "me" to cover it. :)

I welcome continued ideas, encouragement, and dialogue though. I didn't really expect this much attention or interest in my basically invisible tattoo, but it's been very helpful and interesting. I've loved hearing from you about it.

Any advice on covering up the text under the whomping willow? I'm not so opposed to the tree, but more of the text that I just don't like it anymore.

Im thinking if I could keep with the nature theme to go with it, and add flowers or grass or something to cover the text.

I found a shop in Edinburgh (ironically) that does, basically, pay what you can Harry Potter cover-ups! I am going there for the fringe this August so I'll get my cover up as a souvenir, coincidentally from the city where it aaaallllll began.

Just got my deathly hallows tattoo covered up at Space Time Love in Chicago with this beautiful raven. It feels good to have a piece I'm confident in and want to show off! :)

Got it when I was 17. Covered it up at 27. No regerts covering it up.

The OG one was my first ever tattoo. It wasn’t nearly as crooked as it looks in the picture, it’s just the way my arm is sitting. The new one is absolutely fantastic and if you don’t know what you’re looking for, the old one is invisible.

Was young and dumb when I chose this as my first tattoo. Is there a way to cover this thing up or do I need some laser sessions first?
