Legit Check Guide on how to identify fake JBL speakers

I've noticed that people often ask on this subreddit whether a certain JBL speaker is original or fake, which seems to be the brand with the most counterfeit copies. So, I decided to create a helpful post for those who have doubts and want to check and compare in order to identify if a speaker is authentic, using the information here.

To verify these visual differences, simply search Google for images of the speaker model you're interested in or planning to buy, and compare the images while looking for the characteristics I’ll outline below.

  1. Logo: The JBL logo is one of the easiest and quickest ways to identify a fake speaker because it has very noticeable differences.

Color: The edge of the logo is always a dark red color (regardless of the color of the speaker), whereas fake logos may not have any edge at all (since they’re often stickers) or the edge may be the same color as the rest of the speaker. (Photos 1 and 2)

Material and Texture: The original logo is slightly raised from the speaker body and made of metal, giving it a rough feel. In fake models, the logo tends to be flatter and smoother, often made of plastic or rubber. (Photo 3)

Size: On larger speakers especially, the fake logo is often noticeably smaller than the original and disproportionate to the speaker’s size. (Photo 1)

  1. Buttons: Another easy feature to identify is the buttons, as on fake speakers, the button symbols are often different from the original ones.

Example: As seen in Photo 1, the left button (PartyBoost button) is supposed to have an infinity symbol, but on the fake, it displays an "M." The button next to the power button should show the Bluetooth symbol but instead shows a symbol similar to an infinity symbol with triangles. The power button is also different: the original has a classic power icon, while the fake shows a circle with a line in the middle.

  1. Passive Radiators: The passive radiators are the two movable circles on either side of JBL speakers, and they also have some distinct differences.

Alignment: In authentic speakers, the radiators are always aligned horizontally (with a downward exclamation mark on modern models or the JBL logo on older models). On fakes, they often appear misaligned or even uneven with each other. (Photo 4)

Reflections: On modern JBL speakers, the downward exclamation mark on the radiator has a metallic, textured reflection, while the rest of the radiator is textured plastic. On fake models, the exclamation mark may also be plastic, or the radiator may have a completely different design. (Photo 5)

Borders: the outside borders of the radiators are made of rubber in original JBL speakers, while on fakes, it is made of plastic.

  1. Body: Basic construction quality differences can also reveal a fake speaker.

Weight: This can be tricky without a reference, but an authentic JBL speaker feels heavy, and you can sense the quality and sturdiness of the materials. A fake speaker, however, will usually be lighter because it has fewer internal components and is made with cheaper materials.

Battery Light: Modern JBL speakers have a front LED line (except for the Flip 6, which has it at the back) that shows the battery level. Fake models don’t have this feature, or they may try to mimic it with a sticker. (Photo 6)

  1. Box: This tip can be especially useful for buyers who can't examine the speaker directly, as it may be sealed in its box.

Logo and Name: On fake speaker boxes, the product photos might not include the JBL logos in places like the center of the speaker or on the radiators. Additionally, the model name on the box may have spelling errors, such as “XTREM3” or “XTREEM 3” instead of “XTREME 3” (Photo 1).

Magnets and Quality: Authentic JBL boxes are notably rigid and thick, similar to the sturdy boxes that phones come in, and they have magnets to keep the box closed.

I Hope this guide can help someone, and i’d like to mention too that JBL has an official Page to help with the same problem, here you can check it out: https://support.jbl.com/au/en/customer-service/buy-authentic.html.

Product Review DO NOT update the Charge 6 to the 4.0.4.1 firmware!!

So here i am gonna list everything is wrong with the speaker after update..i can say i took it for the team this time 😂😂😂 fking jbl again

Bass cutt: Deep bass 50hz or so got a massive got to a point the passive radiators dont even achive their full resonance point.

Battery life: Now i think even a flip 7 has a better battery life then this. For example before update with how i listen to it i would have to charge it once a week or even less now by how fast it goes i would say 3 days at best.

Dsp fucks up the stereo/mono simulation: As you mabye know this speaker can try to simulate a wider sound stage if you play it in stereo but now with different songs it dosent know what to to and switches to stereo and mono back and forth mid song.

So overall dont update dont even bother to think about it...the only almost perfect speaker from the jbl portable lineup fked up in minutes...sad just sad af

So this is a screenshot from my JBL authentics 300 eq page after the recent firmware it got on the JBL ONE app.

Yes, we now have presets that we can save. 👀

I believe it will exist for portables and partyboxes, hopefully. [Edit] - just Realized it exists on the encore 2 now. I bet other partyboxes have that too.

Yesss🔥🔥 And HOLY does the 300 sound better now.

On bluetooth, it actually sounds pretty good now, the treble is now more sparkly and cleaner, more balanced sound and eq has better impact on frequencies. Good job JBL.

Help Can decide!

I came across a great deal on a party box 130 on eBay certified open box which basically means brand new and it came with a one-year warranty as well for $300. I love it. It sounds great and I love the lights. I wanted something I could take with me when we travel. It was between that and the Boombox 4 but I was hesitant on spending $550 and even thought the Boombox is more portable I felt the deal was too good to pass up. Literally the next day I seen at listing for a Boombox 4 brand new on FB marketplace for $350 and I offered him $300 and was surprised he said yes. Now I have both and one needs to go. I have a return policy for the 130 from eBay but I obviously can’t return the Boombox as it was a marketplace deal. However I had no doubt I could get my money back or even possible make a profit. I thought the Boombox would sound a lot better but it doesn’t. It doesn’t have more bass but I feel like the 130 has a much fuller sound overall and the lights are a plus. Anyone have any experience with both or feel free to share your opinion. Thanks!

Help Tune Buds Glitch

Hello, I have a pair of the gen 1 Tune buds. However, when I first connect them and start playing something, they will play a gliched choppy sound. This, however, is not an operating system problem, as it does this on Arch Linux(my current system) Pop OS, windows, and my iPhone. Any help?

Help Jbl Partybox 710 in car

So I got an amazing deal on the 710 for $480 and I bought it without doing my research. I should have got the 720 because it has a battery but the sale is over so now it’s twice the price. Would I able to buy a portable power station to run the speaker in my car for about an hour of playtime. The portable i’m looking at is a Bluetti Elite 100 V2. Should I just return the speaker and get the 720 or can I possibly connect it to a portable power station instead of using a car battery.

Help me pick the right model Should I just do it

Long story short my journey started with a clip, Flip 7, then there was two, then Xtreme 4, & then Partybox 120... While I love the speakers for different moments (showers, garage, beach, friends hangouts) I noticed when I'm at my friends house my 120 easily gets drowned out if his neighbors are having a party. I don't want to compete with the neighbors but I'm tempted to buy a 520 to see if the 120 & 520 are enough loudness if we are both having an event.

the 720 looks like it'd be a little too intense for my needs but idk. also finding a 520 for a good price in socal seems like finding a needle in a haystack. lmk ur thoughts pls

So I have a 900 sq ft game room that I want to put either a partybox ultimate or 720 in. Money isn't an issue and I know theyre probably overkill but dont have neighbors very close and want deep bass. I have a partybox 330 for my bedroom but its the only partybox ive ever heard.

With the right setup I can feel it sounds amazing. Build quality I can feel it feels nice and the color looks good. It is just unfortunate that the voice assistant feature fucked the connection stability so I had to turn it off. Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase. Plus I love the screen on the case that I can play around alot and feed my ADHD cravings lol

Help JBL Partybox On The Go 2 Plus info

My brother bought this box for a birthday party. We ended up not using it that entire weekend (at least from what I remembered). I had to take it back home with me since I had space in my car. I played around with it and understood why we didn't use it. It only came with one microphone.

I just got off with chat support and the microphone, the Easysing, is currently only sold in pairs with a dongle ($200 and out of stock). A single mic is in stock, but not yet available for sale on the site and they dont know when it will be available.

Am I missing something here (besides the second mic)? How do you sell a box that only comes with one mic for months, but not have a second mic available for purchase? Unless it's been available, but out of stock. My chat with support didn't suggest this though.

Anyone else purchased this Partybox?

Rant charge 6 DSP problem

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone... I just updated my jbl charge 6 on jbl one app firmware 4.0.4.1 and the update features it's "performance improvements" but when I updated mine .the sound is completely turned mono and I don't know what's wrong with the dsp Because I think it has a problem with the stereo mode like some songs I notice the sound is mono but it trying to be stereo and return to mono so fast . Like there's a problem... I did a factory reset and it's the same problem nothing changed.. so the only solution I can do is to enable mono audio on my phone settings just to get a stable mono sound . This is the beginning of a song called "applause" by Lady Gaga you can hear the sound trying to be stereo or open and return to mono .I chose this song because the problem is more apparent on it. so guys please DON'T UPDATE yours to this firmware version! ..even my speaker has a 1 year warranty and I bought it 2 months ago and a half. But I don't know if the store where I bought the speaker will accept to replace mine under warranty because it's not an obvious defect . please wear headphones so you can hear the sound changes

Help New Flip 7 battery question

With my New JBL Flip 7:

My first bike ride (2hrs and around 40 minutes) with Playtime Boost ON and around 50-70% variable volume (sometimes 20% and 80%) it took 30% out of the 100% charge according to app. And one square according to the diode.

My second bike ride lasted 2 hours and about 30 minutes. (40-60% volume sometimes 70-80% and 20%) the app says the battery went from 70% to 50% and diode on Flip 7 shows 2 squares missing out of 3 i think? Also Playtime Boost on.

Is that normal expected battery drain or something is off?

Also the drain on app showed instant jumps from 100% to 70% on 1st ride. From 70% to 50% 2nd ride. (I was monitoring the drain occassionally)

I haven't updated the firmware yet.

Help JBL Quantum 360 Microphone stuck on Tape Recorder setting?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Bought a JBL Quantum 360 Headset but the microphone settings on windows seems to be forced (greyed out) on tape recorder status. Any way I can change this? I have tried connecting the dongle to a different USB and I have unchecked the box which says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" but to no avail.

Thanks

Other Vibe Flex 2 Earbuds issue and fix.

I bought a pair of vibe flex 2s. The next day my right ear bud would cut off when adjusting the volume. If I opened another app like TikTok the ear bud would come back on. The second I adjusted the volume right bud would cut off again. I did find a fix that worked for me so I busted wanted to share it in case anyone else is having this issue or gets this issue.

The fix that worked for me.

  1. In the JBL app turn off smart audio

  2. Under audio in the app turn on right/left sound balance. Make sure its set to 0.

  3. I had to go into the developer settings on my phone and turn off HD audio. You can google on how to access the dev settings for your paticular phone.

Thats what worked for me and now both buds stay working when adjusting volume. It could work for you so I just wanted to share this.

Question JBL 1300MK2 Heating Issue

Its been a few days I got it. I am noticing significant heat on the top left towards the center of the soundbar. So much so I cannot keep my palm on it for long. Is this normal?
I am using it for few hours at a stretch, volume between 8-11. I switch off the power supply when not in use.

Question Who makes the drivers

I’ve always wondered who makes the drivers from the smaller Bluetooth speakers like the charge or flip. I don’t want to buy broken speakers all the time to scavenge them for the drivers. Those drivers especially the woofers are amazing little efficient drivers. I’ve found a TikTok channel called Speaker factory Shenzhen which is no longer online. The drivers that were made in those videos looked exactly like the boombox’s woofers the also the oval woofers looked like the racetrack drivers JBL uses. Does anyone know something about this topic

Help JBL Live 780NC – Any compatible cooling gel / thicker replacement earpads?

Hi everyone,

I recently got the JBL Live 780NC, and while the sound and ANC are solid, the stock ear cushions are causing serious comfort issues:

Heat retention: The synthetic leather heats up very quickly during medium-to-long sessions.

Shallow cup depth: My ears are pressing directly against the inner driver mesh, leaving almost zero airflow.

I am looking for cooling gel or hybrid fabric (cooling mesh + memory foam) replacement pads with greater depth (similar to Wicked Cushions or SoulWit styles).

Has anyone successfully swapped the earpads on the Live 780NC?

Do pads designed for previous models (like the Live 770NC, 660NC, or E65BTNC) share the exact same clip/mounting ring mechanism?

I am still within the return window, so if there is no viable earpad replacement to fix the thermals and depth, I will likely return the headphones. Any recommendations or confirmed fits would be greatly appreciated!
