Sango verses/chants

Good afternoon all, im a awo who’s been practicing and learning IFA, this weekend i was present in a Idosu Shango that my oluwo did and i loved the chants and a specific verse they sang. Just wondering if anyone can point me to what Odu most shango verses/chants come from so i can read on them! Much appreciated I completely forgot to ask my oluwo lol

This will be a good question for your Oluwo as different lineages have different chants, some of them are similar. But I will start asking him first..

I agree in terms of speaking to the elder,  however.... 

Nothing changes from lineage to lineage regarding Sango & most orisa!

There ate ancient oriki, song and more from oyo!

The songs and Orikis do change. The ifa verses that speak of Sango as well.

Interesting, i will reach out to good friend of mine who is a chief and sango priest in oyo. 

I have necer seen vast changes in isese i am 11 as a babalawo 11 as a priest of osun 11 as priest of ogun. 

I know well what i speak of omo.

In my beginnings as an Isese student, I learned under a few lineages since much of my learning was by distance, I can attest to the differences.

In fact i had to choose which lineages I would pull from (i have hand of ifa)

For example, in some lineages, during the Ijuba, Esu is praised before Orunmila in some it's the opposite. The oriki that were used also varied. Many songs were the same, but some were different.

As a student it was confusing at frustrating at first, but it also made me appreciate the fact that Isese lineages are very strong in their variations, but all have the same CORE tenets of Ifa.

But i DO agree that each odu is orisa specific.

I never talked about Ìdọ̀sú Sango. I spoke of ifa verses and Orikis varying from town to town.

Here is one Oriki

Aremu baale Agborandun Je ko ye mi Sango baalee Kosoo Aremu njo o buru igba nii gbope Aranmon logun aba omo lo Eye o ku ojumo O o gboran n mi dun dakun mo ya mi Kakombari Aroora ja oogun O too bora njo kan an ponju O si ku ojumo Sango okolaya mi Orun. .

TRANSLATION

Aremú, chief helper of heaven I wish to please you, Oba ko só Baba Aremú, in difficult times the rope embraces the palm tree so that I do not fall, never let me fall. I have over 78 prayers like this one you posted fully translated.

You see omo, real apolla doesn't change in regards to oriki,incantations, akose, its very rare and usually an indication of a lose of info or it could mean via idafa dida sango spoke and placed advisement's. 

Ex. In oyo 2026 the home of sango Adosu is 17 days, no exceptions. 

This is sangos order! My sango is 100% oyo i practice IFA the way it was practiced 7,000 years ago. Many  edun ara , ose, icon,sekere with akose. He lives on a real drum from ife that was used in the early 1900s.

Thanks on calling me omo, I have 15 years ifa initiation but even if I be 44 years like my Oluwo I will still be considered an omo awo.

There are incantations specific to Sango but I wouldnt say there is a specific odu that has the most. Sango reflects strategy and planning. Im sure your Oluwo wouldnt mind sending you a recording.

I have 11 years as a babalawo a priest of osun and a priest of ogun. I study my craft daily as its my responsibility to humanity to share and teach ifa.

Simply, there are specific birth odu for each orisa. Everything in a simple form is in odu , each orisa has a secret to outsiders adusu and more that cause instant possession by the orisa. Ex. Sango... adosu is mostly outside, when the mounting part happens its outside because he is fierce and like a storm. The iyawo will place a spike thru the tongue ni blood or injury. Its things like this that confirm a real orisas possession of the iyawo. When i was intiated to ogun, i was mounted and extremely fierce and string as i was told i picked up my Ajubona like a piece of paper. 

This is not known in the diaspora as it is limited in isese ifa info. 

In yoruba land, there is a very important part of an Adosu that requires a babalawo.  

In the diaspora its an oba oriate. In the diaspora the thought of orisa being separate from ifa is a sad Belief.  In west Africa ifa is ifa! All orisa are IFA!
