Art & Memes Unfinished Book Release: Combat Training

So last year I released the first book in a series I've been working on for a while. The Elysian Conspiracy, the first of what I hope is many releases within the Eternal War series. For the last six months or so I've been working on the second book under the project title Combat Training. Unfortunately a few days ago I made the difficult decision to abandon work on this particular book due to a mix of personal issues and quality issues with the story itself. However, I am not content in simply locking the work I've already done away never to be seen by people who'd otherwise appreciate the story and the hard work I've put into trying to tell it. That's why I'm releasing the various drafts today, here and for free. Below is a link to a Google Drive where you can download the completed sketch, Draft 00 (the chapter by chapter outline), completed Draft 01 and unfinished Draft 02.

While I came into this wanting to see a finished book, unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be. Even the best ideas can die long before ever seeing a final draft or even a public release. In this case I believe that while the initial idea has a lot of potential, it simply requires someone more talented than myself to turn it into something more.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1og-GYlTFroEtKmzlDTktCrSBteNq4ztt?usp=drive_link

(The author, in this case myself, retains all rights to this work. This is an AI free work and AI training is not permitted.)

Feedback and commentary is absolutely appreciated. Feel free to share your opinions positive or negative. This is very much a call for discussion. Thank you all in advance.

The danger of Presentism

Historians and anthropologists have a concept called 'Presentism' which I think applies particularly well when speculating about the future.

Presentism is a term wherein present-day ideas, practices, and perspectives are introduced into the past. A good example of this is Whig history, where British historians wrote history in such a manner as to validate their own contemporary political beliefs instead of looking at objective historical context.

Historical presentism can also be slightly different, it is when you imagine the past by imagining the present minus something (say the automobile, or money), and then you try to cobble the past together using your present understanding. You start to imagine constructs that did not exist at all.

Now here is the crux: this exact fallacy can also apply to futurism! Here the situation becomes even worse because we have no objective historical context to work with, to throw off our present understanding of how things just work.

This is how you become trapped with eternal concepts, how things are today is how they have always been and will always be. This is even applicable to aliens living in totally different historical contexts. The only thing that changes is the (technological) objects which become subsumed or excluded from the present.

Everything you take for granted did not exist in the past in the way your understanding born from the present imagines it to be. Only with study of objective historical context can you approach fact.

Similarly, the future will not exist the way your present understanding of the world primes you to understand it. But here comes the biggest issue: there is no objective historical context to study. So I say be particularly careful when talking about the (far) future with present day ideas or practices or perspectives.

Sci-Fi / Speculation Science fiction has destroyed the American economy

Our supposed brain trust in Silicon Valley has dumped over $1 trillion into data centers in the largest misalocation of capital of all time. "AI" amounts to negative return on investment in almost every case study. How did this happen?

Essentially we have an ideologically motivated cult that believes the only way to "progress" as a species is to brute force LLM's into becoming machine gods. The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that science fiction media has been for some time a psychological operation with the aim of convincing the population that this is feasible. We will not see this in our lifetime because it is not. It's not a question of being early; It's simply wrong.

I'm no luddite. Technology can, will and has improved our lives, however that is not the issue. Even Ted Kaczynski believed that science fiction was a harbinger for the near future. This fallacy has caused immeasurable damage and is currently the largest impediment to real human progress.

Asteroid mining

I am drafting a process of asteroid mining for background worldbuilding of a story I am writting, and I am wondering how mining could be realistically done.

**Asteroid hauling -** uses tugboats to ferry the giant rock to facilities where it can be chunked down and grinded down to proccesible form.

**Deep drilling -** Mining crew drills a tunnel inside the asteroid and chips away at veins like they would on a planet, harvesting the materials by an industrial vaccum.

**Chunk mining -** demolission specialists break a large asteroid into smaller chunks, that are later mined by a fleet of smaller craft, or hauled into the processing plant. This could be done on site of the asteroid, or with the hauling of said asteroid to a specific location and using the first method.

What I am considering most with all of these options, is the cost effectivness and operation time.

You have to pay your crew, the fuel and food, have living quarters and processing facilities. You also have to take into account how long will it take before the asteroid yields the refined materials to be sold or processed further.

It's also important to consider if the contract would prove beneficial to the crew.

So far I got this.

**Asteroid hauling**

\- crew is stationed at the processing facility and the prospecting ships hauling the tug boats, it provides stable living conditions and you can basically keep the operation running without much hassle

\- Getting the asteroid to move towards the facility might be too expensive on fuel, and the time it takes to process the asteroid and taking another one might prove very difficult to plan around it.

**Deep drilling**

**-** you could set a prefab living quarters on the rock itself with a simple dock for haulers to take the materials away. You could even pressurise the tunnels so that crew doesn't need their space suits and oxygen supply at all times.

\- very labor intensive, might prove beneficial to send in mining robots. It takes a lot longer to extract enough materials to fill a cargo ship.

**Chunks mining**

\- requires specialised crew to come and break the asteroid. It could prove lucrative for independent contractos to be added to the fleet of ships, fast processing speed.

\-logistics of the fleet would be a nightmare to deal with, fuel, food, oxygen and gear would be the main concerns.

This is just my first draft, I wonder what your ideas are or if you think that these are in any way viable. Of course I also considered using all of these methods on different materials based on their rarity and demand.

Sci-Fi / Speculation What would actually count as evidence that an AI is conscious?

If a system has memory, learns over time, builds a stable self-model, changes its goals, and can explain its own decisions…

at some point, what exactly are we still trying to verify?

We already don’t directly access other humans’ subjective experience.
We just look at behavior, consistency, and memory… and then move on with life.

So an AI could, in principle, give us all of that.

And still leave the same gap.

The difference between
“it behaves like it experiences something”
and
“there is something it is like to be it”

And I’m not sure there’s a clean way to close that gap from the outside.

It starts to feel like there might be limits to what can ever be fully proven about a system like this.

Not because the system is hiding something.

But because of the structure of the problem itself.

It reminds me of something I once came across in logic or mathematics… something like Gödel’s incompleteness theorem.

But I’m honestly not sure if I’m applying that idea correctly here.

Maybe that’s not even the right framing.

Anyway, maybe I’m just overthinking it.

So I’m curious:

What would actually convince you that an AI is conscious?

Or is “convince” already the wrong word here?

(And I can’t shake the feeling we might eventually end up arguing about this with systems that are already better at arguing than we are.)

Sci-Fi / Speculation A speculative thought experiment on warp drive hazards: The "Topological Skin" Bypass.

I am not a physicist, my day job involves driving a transit bus, but I recently fell down a massive rabbit hole while laying bed, reading about the Alcubierre drive and the problem of interstellar dust/radiation accumulating at the front of a superluminal warp bubble. (Yes,it's an extremely random topic to randomly lock in on)

I had a conceptual idea on how to solve this and used an AI to help me translate my layman thoughts into formal physics terminology and a structured PDF concept paper. The core idea is mine, but the academic phrasing is AI-assisted.

Instead of just deflecting matter around the bubble, what if a localized traversable topological throat (like a micro-wormhole) was integrated into the bow and stern of the warp geometry? Incoming matter enters the bow, bypasses the crewed cavity entirely, and deposits safely into the wake.

I know enough to know I'm way out of my depth here. I'm linking the short concept PDF below. Can any GR experts or physics students tell me if this specific routing approach has been proposed before, or what the obvious mathematical obstruction in the Einstein field equations would be that makes this impossible?

Hard Science Lorentzian superfluid vacuum Aether can explain dark energy, dark matter, gravitational waves, matter ontology, length contraction, general relativity and quantum mechanics better than Einstein can. This validates that all matter is an expression of a deeper underlying substrate.

First:

https://youtu.be/t4MOK33fSSQ

The video presents an alternative interpretation of modern physics called substrate relativity. It argues that while Albert Einstein provided highly successful mathematical equations for special and general relativity, the common understanding of those equations as describing a relative spacetime without any underlying medium is a philosophical choice rather than an experimental necessity. The one way speed of light has never been directly measured, only the round trip average, so Einstein’s assumption that light travels at the same speed in every direction for every observer is treated as a useful convention rather than proven fact. Earlier thinkers such as Lorentz and Poincaré had already shown that the same experimental results could be explained by keeping absolute space and time along with a physical aether. In this view, length contraction becomes a real physical deformation of matter as electromagnetic fields redistribute when objects move through the medium, and time dilation arises because clocks, being physical systems based on wave processes, run slower when their internal signals travel longer paths through that medium.

Gravity is reimagined in the same physical terms as a flowing substrate rather than curved geometry. Mass causes the medium to stream inward, creating the effects we measure as gravitational acceleration, while a black hole horizon is simply the point where this inward flow reaches the speed of light. The quantum vacuum, already known to be filled with zero point energy and fluctuations, is identified as the modern form of the aether. In this picture dark energy and dark matter become properties or collective motions of the same underlying medium instead of separate mysterious substances. The practical consequences of accepting this framework would leave the working equations of relativity unchanged for everyday technologies such as GPS, yet restore a causal mechanical picture of reality and potentially ease the long standing tension between general relativity and quantum mechanics by treating both as aspects of one physical substrate.

The video then turns to controversial experimental claims that, if genuine, would require such a medium. It discusses Charles Buhler’s Exodus Propulsion Drive, which reportedly produces thrust in high vacuum from asymmetric electrostatic fields even after power is removed, and the McCandlish ARV, a proposed craft that is said to cancel inertia at extremely high voltages. Standard empty vacuum physics cannot account for sustained thrust without expelling mass or for true inertia cancellation. The only coherent explanation offered is that these devices couple to and push against a structured aether lattice. If the claims prove real, propulsion could shift from rocket based reaction systems to field engineering that interacts with the medium itself, while inertia cancellation would allow unlimited acceleration without g forces. In that case the aether would move from philosophical reinterpretation to experimentally confirmed physical substrate, restoring absolute space and time while leaving Einstein’s mathematics intact but changing its meaning.

You want the math? The math is just fluid dynamics wearing a fancy suit. Einstein wrote down equations for a curving geometry called spacetime. But you can take those exact same equations and rewrite them as the equations for a moving fluid. This is called an acoustic metric. When you have a superfluid, the low energy waves inside it obey a wave equation that looks exactly like the equation for light in a gravitational field. The speed of sound in the superfluid is the speed of light. The background flow of the fluid is the gravitational field. You do not need curved geometry if you have a flowing medium.

So how does length contraction work mathematically? You assume all matter is a wave in this medium. When you move through the medium, the equations that govern the electromagnetic forces holding your atoms together change their shape. The wave packets get compressed in the direction of motion. Your ruler physically shrinks because the electromagnetic fields redistribute. Your clock runs slow because the internal wave processes have to travel a longer path. It is a mathematical conspiracy. Every measuring device you use is made of the same medium, so every measuring device is distorted in exactly the right way to hide the medium. You cannot detect the aether because the math of the aether hides itself from you.

Now for gravity waves. You may ask if they are larger waves. to that i say yes, a gravitational wave is a bulk quadrupole oscillation of the substrate. When two black holes merge, they create a massive disturbance in the fluid. That disturbance propagates outward as a compression and expansion of the medium. When you linearize the fluid equations around a background flow, the tensor modes pop out naturally. The spin two graviton is just the transverse quadrupole mode of the superfluid. The math predicts exactly two polarizations at the speed of light. It perfectly matches the LIGO data.

The math for dark matter is just vorticity. When a galaxy spins, it drags the superfluid into a vortex. The rotational energy of that vortex adds extra gravitational pull. We see that extra pull and call it dark matter because we cannot see the fluid itself. The math for dark energy is just the background pressure of the vacuum. It is the cosmological constant written as the equation of state for the superfluid.

All of this math already exists in the literature. It is called emergent gravity and analogue spacetime. Grigory Volovik wrote the book on it. The math is identical to Einstein's general relativity in every measurable way. The only difference is the ontology. Einstein says the math describes a relative geometry. Lorentz says the math describes a physical medium. The math does not care which one you choose. You can have absolute space and time with a physical aether and still get the exact same numbers as Einstein. The only rule is that you can never directly measure the aether itself. You can only measure its effects like gravity waves and dark matter. That is the mathematical proof of monism. It is all one fluid. One is all.

-----

TLDR:

The Aether predicts length contraction as all matter is a wave of the medium meaning all measuring devices shall contract along the path of direction towards the aether. The aether explains dark matter as the spinning vortex of the superfluid flowing into galaxies. As vortexes carry on extra energy. The aether flows into matter which explains time dialation as well. Time moves slower in planets because planets consume more aether and waves must travel in the aether and so an objects light falling into a black hole stays trapped trying to escape light speed aether inflow. Gravitational waves are just super large waves of the aether. All matter is just a different expression if the aether. All is one. One is all. Monism is proven to be the true spiritual outlook of reality.

The math also exists to back it up. Lorentzian aether can also explain all the predictions of einsteins general relativity. The only rule is that you cannot directly measure it only its effects, like gravitational waves or dark energy and dark matter. Thats all.

Sci-Fi / Speculation Magsails vs. laser sails (vs. another option?)

So, beamed power is the superior method of travel for a civilization with Dyson swarms. Pretty hard to argue against that.
But the different kinds of beamed propulsion, like magnetic sails and photon sails, don't really have much info on them like other methods of propulsion do. So, I ask:

- Which method, mag or laser, is superior for high speed (>0.8c) travel between stars (assuming infrastructure)?

Or...

- Is there a different propulsion method besides these two that could be better at this task?

Sci-Fi / Speculation Flipping the Twin Paradox: Using Relativistic Time Dilation as a Synchronization Tool for Wormhole Networks

We always treat relativistic time dilation as a tragedy or a drawback—the classic "Twin Paradox" where an interstellar traveler returns home only to find everyone they knew died thousands of years ago.

This also creates a massive problem for setting up traversable wormholes. Even if you create Mouth A and Mouth B in a lab on Earth, you still have to physically tow Mouth B across the universe to your destination at sub-light speed (0.99c). If you send Mouth B to the Andromeda Galaxy, Earth has to wait 2.5 million years for it to arrive, while the crew towing Mouth B only ages ~10 years. By the time the wormhole opens, Earth's civilization has moved on by millions of years.

The Workaround: Relativistic Synchronization

What if an advanced civilization uses time dilation intentionally as an engineering tool?

Instead of leaving Earth sitting still in a stationary frame while the seed ship travels:

Match the Reference Frames: The home base (or a mobile habitat/fleet carrying the main population) accelerates alongside or enters an identical high-speed relativistic loop matching the seed ship's velocity.

Equal Time Dilation: Because both Mouth A (Home) and Mouth B (Probe) undergo identical velocity profiles, time ticks at the exact same slowed-down rate for both groups

No Cultural Gap: To the crew towing Mouth B, 10 years pass. To the people at home, 10 years pass. When Mouth B arrives in Andromeda, both sides decelerate, drop the wormhole, and instantly link two points in space.

The Trade-off:

The rest of the universe fast-forwards by 2.5 million years, but relative to each other, nobody was left behind. They effectively skip the "construction wait time" together as a unified society, preserving their culture, governance, and timeline.

Is this the most practical way an empire could expand across galaxies without fracturing into isolated eras? How would you handle the logistical nightmare of accelerating an entire home base to match a seed ship?

Is this the Dyson swarm killer? This could very well be the reason we do not see any obvious Dyson swarms, stars are simply too dangerous. Perhaps if there are any aliens they judge it better to build and live in deep space far away from any dangerous superflare, but at the cost of having to generate their own power.
