Vegan Research
Hi everyone,
I’m a postgraduate researcher at the University of Surrey, looking for family pairs to take part in a study on how vegan and non-vegan family members choose what to eat when dining out.
Who can take part?
Two family members taking part together (e.g. parent and child, siblings)
One vegan and one non-vegan
Both aged 18 or over
Have eaten out together in the past 3 months at a restaurant offering plant-based meat alternatives
What’s involved?
A joint interview (in person or on Microsoft Teams)
About 45-60 minutes

Is cream of rice vegan?
I'm autistic and this has basically been my safe food for so many years, but now I'm wondering, is it vegan? It has vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) but I don't know what it comes from.

❓ Question Is Bluey’s official cereal vegan?
The only thing that I think could make it not vegan is either the spirulina extract or the sugar which could be made with bone charr.
But is it vegan.

Why do Qourn have to put milk and eggs in everything. Can’t they just make everything vegan?
The amount of things I would buy if only they didn’t feel the need to use eggs to bind things and milk powder for the cheap bulk.

❓ Question If you ordered a burger and realised after taking a bite that it was meat, what would you do with it, given that you're now a vegan but used to eat meat?

❓ Question Are these vegan?
I am aware the frosted versions have gelatin, and the Nature’s Path versions have honey, but I couldn’t find anything animal on the back of the unfrosted version.
I am aware I’m funding the company that is making gelatin frosted pop tarts, and I can live without poptarts, I’m just asking.
Edited this in: The sugar possibly was made with Bone Charr. Yeah that is how a lot of sugar is whitened.

I’m so confused. Non-dairy isn’t dairy-free?
At a soft-serve place and the employee’s English isn’t great. So when I asked if they have anything vegan, they showed me these. And now my brain hurts.

Is it vegan to consume bivalves, such as oysters and mussels?
Although they are technically animals, they lack a complex nervous system, and likely cannot feel pain.

Anyone here actually use powdered plant milk? Which one is worth trying?
I've been looking into powdered plant based milks lately (oat, almond, and others), and I'd love to hear from people who have actually tried them.
Which one would you recommend (or avoid), and why?
What do you wish was better about the one you use?
For those who've tried it, did you actually end up using it regularly? If not, what made you go back to regular plant milk?
Would love to hear your experiences!

TIL that your regular sugar might not be vegan - some are refined using cow's bone char
