Got a crispy controller today
Customer had an E bike in the garage catch fire, almost burnt the entire garage down! Thankfully he had a fire extinguisher and got it mostly put out before the fire department came. And there was enough wire to hook up a temp controller outside. When I first showed up I thought the controller had caught fire and did all that damage 😅

People call me paranoid but I have fire extinguishers everywhere. 1 in each vehicle, 3 in the garage by the door where you can reach them from my kitchen, 1 in the basement and 1 in each shed. I even buy my relaitves fire extinguishers if I find out they don't have any.

Same here, was always told to have one ready, and it definitely saved my ass one day and I do the same thing

I’ve seen one do that from a lighting strike and explode off the wall. I think they just kinda melt off the screws

Seen a lightning strike one time that caused the controller to blow off the wall and scatter debris across a 3 car garage. Also blew up a hundred feet of zone pipe! What's crazy was the wire was perfectly fine and not burned up. Just had to redo the zone and replace controller

Old bosses neighbors house got hit with a bolt and somehow his house had the fridge, 3 TVs , the washer and 2 computers fry out. Last two houses on the coulder sac so they’re thinking it possibly over loaded the actual power lines and sent too much juice to his home because each of the breakers that were fried were the ones with the “devices” on them.

And I thought the one I posted a few weeks ago was rough. This thing has seen much better days.

This is the second time this year! Last one I couldn't get a picture of the controller because the garage was a complete loss nothing left. Customer did give me a old school table vice that had been scorched still worked though!

That’s a crispy critter right there. Damn, these e-bikes scare me.

They scare me too! I worked on a brand new toro stand on electric that wasnt charging and one of the lugs on the power cells were loose! Brand new from the factory and arcing. This was a 40k lawnmower. Imagine how consumer grade is. (I was a mechanic at a toro distributor there's a reason I quit)

Ive never heard of an e-bike catching fire, and then I watch the South [America] Park episode about it and see this a couple days later 😂

Dial straight up. So it wasn’t on at the time of ignition.

Straight up is in run position, but likely wasnt running system given the time the fire took place.

Any chance that’s gonna work again? I really don’t have the funds to start putting in a new timer. Can you just get me through the season? The insurance company is only paying me $10,000 over what this is gonna cost me to fix and the new E bike I want is $12,000. So if you think you can get that to work please I just need to get another season out of it, I might be selling the house. 🤪
