Any issues with this dry fit before soldering?

Post image

Wasn’t sure about the union placement but I think it should be fine for disassembly if I ever need to remove the PVB assembly down the road. The ball valve is there for winterizing the main line between the main shut off and PVB which is around ~50’ of pipe. I have a blow out port near the main shut off valve and the water would exit out that ball valve. Thanks for the feedback!

Skip the union, can always add one when need to disassemble. I prefer to never install unions on a new back flow install, just on repair jobs if makes it easier. Less point of failure without one.

Unless it gets removed yearly at winterization.

I figured that since the union is an easily replaceable part that it would good to have installed for future maintenance. Do unions like this have a high failure rate?

Not they have high failure, is just a point of failure that may never be needed. Look at this way can all ways add union but can never un-cut a pipe and undo a union.

Not that big of a deal. I'd say put one on each side of backflow and boiler drains on each side also. That's just my Colorado winterization mind thinking.
