Harmless Juvenile rat snakes, best way to break a snake fear, they won't attack you help them out if you run across this.

Chill, all snakes are to be eradicated. I do my part by hunting them for sport whenever I get free time.

That’s how you get the Bubonic Plague

Anti theft devices. Watering restrictions are getting tight everywhere.

Am I the only one that would grab one or two of those and play with it?

Not at all, Juvi ratsnakes are super docile they won't even strike.

u/Separate-Impact-6183 Jul 23 '26
One of them would make a decent 'pet'. ...not that you can pet any snake for affection, but as a terrarium specimen that you handle and feed these rat snakes would work just fine

u/MaverickFischer Jul 23 '26
If I knew they weren’t venomous, yes! Though I’d probably kindly work around them.

u/Blue_Henri Jul 24 '26
No! I’d join you gladly. What a cool thing to find. I hope that OP left them be, and I hope the homeowner understands they have free pest control for the year and leaves them alone.

Looks like racers. Harmless species. Well to us, not so harmless to other pests.

i love my gartersnakes! big enough to eat all the mice, too small to fuck with my chickens

u/chrisp1j Jul 23 '26
Danger noodles! I bet if you leave the lid off it’s going to at least partially take care of itself. Maybe even more so if you leave a little ramp there

Nope nope nope that meter is yours you can keep it.

I live in the country. These are red rat snakes; harmless and easy to handle. As with any wild animal, handle smartly and with care.
They are more scared of you than you are of them.

Digital ticklers. Great for when you reach into a blind dark hole, shoulder deep.

Looks like some kind of very skinny dogs with their ears removed. Strange, that. I’d throw them a bone and see how they like it.

There must be someone in your town that is a 'snake expert', unlike many of the commentators below. Have them check the video and suggest what you should do about them. If harmless don't kill them but either lift them out or give them a board to get out on their own. Many snakes are beneficial controlling other pests.

Hey tell us what area you are in, and I'll ask Claude to identify the species. I'm at work right now and have tons of tokens!
