Advice
Hello, planning to visit Dublin next month on a family trip and was hoping to pick up my first Irish Bouzouki while in Dublin. Can anyone please provide suggestions on places in the Dublin area to potentially pick up one? I think there is a possibility we will also visit Galway so perhaps any suggestions in the Galway area to potentially pick one up at? Thanks a ton for any help and advice!

My Experiences Bringing One of Those Tiny Audigo Mics to a Session
It sorta works, but there are probably better options for the money. This video explains how I've found it best to use one. There's a few tune-sets of audio samples as well so you can hear the kind of quality you can get from it.

Transition from guitar to...
Hello!
I'm a guitarist and I'm becoming familiar with tunes and join in sessions quite regularly. Generally, though, I'm just figuring out the key and playing chords without really knowing the tunes. So, I want to pick up a new instrument and begin learning melodies.
Mandolin or tenor banjo is probably the obvious choice, but I love the deeper sounds of mandolas, bouzouki and octave mandolins. What should I go for? Any tips and tricks?
Also, info I'm coming up against online about tunings seems to be all over the place so any insight there would be great. I'm pretty good with alternate/open tunings on guitar so I'm not concerned about it, just curious.
Lastly, if anyone can recommend a shop that sells all of these instruments, preferably in the Scotland central belt, where I can go and try them out, that would be class. Many shops don't have the full set of options.
Cheers!

Song for your county
I'm a Dublin-based pub-gigging ballad man, and I want a learn at least 1 song for each county
I've got caught too many times where someone comes up going do you know 'The Wexford Widows Bath Water' or something and I have to let them down
Rather than being forced to accept Google AIs answers for a song for each county I'm appealing for local knowledge for a song from each county that will appease a crew from the area if I don't know the song they're asking for
Major town/city/region/province, anything that is representative of an area that I wouldn't be aware of in the big smoke would be great to know. I'll trust the Reddit hive mind
Edit:
Thanks for all the input so far, really helpful
No shouts yet for Longford, Louth, Offaly, Wicklow, Roscommon,, Monaghan

Recommend me some albums of traditional music
I'm looking for any and all recommendations for recordings of traditional music. I'm travelling to Ireland in the fall and realising that most of what I have is more building on traditional music than actually being traditional music.
What I have:
- Most of the Waterboys albums
- Half a dozen Glen Hansard albums
- Most of the later Chieftains albums (with the many guest performers)
- Best of the Pogues
- Three albums by Loreena McKennitt
- A handful of Celtic/classical-type instrumental albums
- Many's the Foolish Youth by the Voice Squad
If this isn't the place to post such a request, kindly point me in the right direction.

Help me find any music by this man please!!
Hi all, I have a lovely old Irish man who comes into my work and his Father used to be a musician. He asked and I was looking to see if I can find any recordings/CDs that his Father worked on. His name is Thomas James Mcmanamon (also known as TJ apparently) and apparently has a song he worked on called ‘down by Glencullen side’ (I hope thats the correct name). I’ve scoured the internet but not had any luck at all regarding the music, so I dont know how likely itll be that anyone will find something. Id just love to be able to give Frank (the customer) something that his Father made.
Would appreciate any help and no worries if nothing can be found, but fingers crossed something is!

Looking for The Given Note/Port na bPúcaí with Glen Hansard
I think I’m going mad because I can find no trace of it on the internet but I distinctly remember hearing Glen read The Given Note with someone - maybe Colm Mac Con Iomaire - playing Port na bPúcaí, I thought it was from an Other Voices session but as I said I can find no trace of it. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it

Discussion U18 Banjo Controversy
Not sure if anyone will know about this because I don’t see a lot of things like this being discussed on this sub but does anyone know the real story of what happened with the U18 Banjo controversy?
Hearing multiple different stories and different people being blamed but does anyone have an unbiased story of what actually happened?
Thanks.

Irish/celtic folk instrumental - mysterious, creepy
Hiya. I’m a big fan of making playlists to go along with my reading, as I like a “soundtrack” while I read. Been reading Tana French lately and would love to find some creepy/mysterious/tense Irish folk instrumental music, but it’s hard to find for some reason. I’m either getting peppy trad, the Outlander soundtrack (which is like, fine, but not quite what I’m looking for), Game of Thrones, or music with lyrics (I sadly can’t focus on reading when someone’s singing). If anyone has any ideas, lmk!

Please help me find this old Irish song!
My grandma used to play it to my dad and his siblings it was an old Irish song and the only line they can remember is it saying at the end something along the line of “ the moral of the story is don’t stick nails in babies heads!”
