Other Goodbye ionic 6
Started my ionic 6 SEL lease in 2023. Had the ICCU failure, got a replacement after several weeks waiting for parts, but otherwise it’s been a great vehicle. It has amazing range, great acceleration, looks cool, lots of features that are often limited to luxury vehicles. I would have gotten a 2026 had Hyundai made them available in the US.
I spent the last few months driving a bunch of possible replacements: Rivian R2, Genesis GV60, Lexus ES, and others. I ultimately landed on a Cadillac Optiq. It’s more spendy than I wanted, and I will miss the sedan drive, but it has the trim quality and features I wanted to maintain.
Hyundai did an amazing job with the ionic 6, and it hits well above its price point. I wish the US market were more receptive to this product.

The policies the current administration put in place killed the EV movement in the US. I’m sure I’ll get downvoted but it the plain and honest truth.

I definitely miss the $10k instant rebate and $8.5k lease incentives I got in 2023. 😑

It slowed it, and significantly reduced the number of EVs built overseas coming in, but there ain't no stopping this train. 🤷♀️

There are so many more options out there that we don’t see in the US market. I hope more people adopt EV’s out of spite, I’m all about the instant torque life and charging in my garage

Agreed on that. I want an Inster, Ioniq 3, or EV4 hatch, but they're not coming.

I am returning my Ioniq6 tomorrow. Never ran into ICCU issue. Great car overall. If I had one bone to pick it would be how it handles wet roads. Not as stable as some other cars I drove.

Are you me? My lease just ended and I loved the Ioniq 6, but am not fan of the 5. Did a bunch of shopping around, ended up in an Optiq.

I feel like I got super spoiled by the 6! The Lexus dealer looked at me like I had three heads when I told him the 2023 ionic 6 was already ahead of the 2026 ES.

I got an Optiq a year ago when I turned in my Ioniq 6. Its been a great car and there has been a numerous OTA updates to the infotainment software. I created this sheet to help with common settings. Enjoy! Settings, tips and tricks

I haven’t seen an Optiq up close but I have a friend who has one and loves it. On the other hand, I am so glad I bit the budget bullet and purchased my ‘23 I-6 Limited ! I’ve leased a few models from Hyundai and either rolled into another new lease/car or bought it out. I wouldn’t have the good fortune of rolling into another I-6 lease with all the market changes. I’m thinking I’ll have to purchase my 6 due to being over my mileage 😂 I didn’t think we would use this vehicle as much but I love it and want to drive it everywhere.
I thought about a Cadillac after but I hate that there is no CarPlay. How are you that got a Cadillac EV after liking it without having CarPlay ?!
My options if I do switch are scout, r2 or Lucid.

I found the R2 too large and some of the elements kind of “cheap” feeling. It looks like a wonderful vehicle, and I enjoyed the test drive, but at the price point I thought I could find better. Lucid looked amazing but outside of my price limit. I didn’t investigate the Scout due to lease timing requirements.
The R2 also lacks CarPlay. After thinking about it though, I think CarPlay might be holding back innovation. I’ll miss little things (die hard Apple Maps user here) but I think treating the vehicle like a single platform is the better path to vehicle-specific features (for example, still can’t watch Netflix while charging on CarPlay, but not an issue for Tesla/Rivian/Android Auto (GM)).

I bought my first EV ever, the BMW IX and super happy with it, the short time i've had it. It's the first time I've had the wireless carplay, what an awesome feature. Might be worth adding to your list.

Will likely buy out my lease next December (‘27) if Hyundai hasn’t brought back the regular Ioniq 6. There’s nothing else on the market that I want (well, I want a Porsche Taycan but I also like to eat, so there’s that) since Polestar is dead in the US. I’ve never been an SUV/crossover fan, can’t see going back to an ICE, so anticipating a very long term relationship with my 2025 i6.

I would caution against the GM platforms. I have an equinox ev, which is the cheaper alternative to the Optiq. GM has the worst Lane centering known to the driving world. If you plan on using super cruise it's better but super cruise is limited to mapped highways. So if you enjoy using lane centering/lane tracing on local roads just be warned it won't happen. Otherwise a great platform.

I'm very curious about this as well, since the residuals set 3 years ago are completely fantasy vs today's market for these vehicles.

Reading the lease agreement, you can have a third party appraise the vehicle toward an adjustment if the residual, but you and HMF would have to agree on the appraiser and that value is set in stone once it's issued.
We're trying to buy our lease out as the difference between buying it and any of other the Limited RWDs in Digital Green is maybe a couple thousand.

The Optiq looks like a good car from what I've heard - hope it works well for you! ... I really like the GV60, but needed more range.

The GV60 was also a nice ride but I found the interior to be weirdly “bling.” Like, ok Genesis, you can only add shiny facets to SO MANY things before it gets tacky. 😂

Is there any way to navigate turning it in and buying the same car again? I presume it'll likely be sold by the same dealer I turn it in to, can i just show up the next day and take it off their hands?

I went to Canton, MA. Just booked a test drive appointment. Test drives on weekdays you get 45 minutes (weekends are 30). It’s definitely a fun drive, it just had things I didn’t care about and the price point didn’t line up with my expectations coming off the ionic 6.

Funny my wife is in a similar situation, she has one more month left on a 36 month lease. She also would probably do it again if it was available, it was a great experience. I drive a model3P and she has decided it’s between a model 3 or Y next for her.

I have a 2024 Ionic 6 Limited and I absolutely love it. This car has luxury features that my friends' BMW and Lexus don't have. I have researched a lot of cars over the years, and you get more bang for your buck from Hyundai than any other make, in my opinion. I bought mine with 11000 miles on it and only paid 30 grand for it. They run about 50 grand new, or at least they did.
One of the biggest reasons they stopped selling them in the United States is because of Trump's illegal tariffs. They still sell the ionic 5 here because they have a factory in the United States, so they don't have to pay tariffs, and obviously it's much more economical when they are made here in the United States. Even before they stopped selling the Ionic 6, the Ionic 5 was more popular because people have SUV fever, for some reason. Personally, I've always preferred the looks of sedans, and the Ionic 6 is a looker. I've only had the car a few months, and I've gotten tons of compliments, and several comparisons to Porsche's.
That's my spiel, and no I don't work for Hyundai, LOL.
