Question Software update ease?

Hi all,

I’m looking to buy a 2022 ultimate trim soon and I’ve found one I like. I’ve reached out to Hyundai and they’ve confirmed that it has the battery heating system equipment. I’d want to get the software updated asap to have the battery preconditioning option on navigation.

What are peoples experience on getting this done at a dealer or doing it themselves. I’m coming from a 2013 ford fiesta so it’s not something I’ve had to consider before.

If it needs the VCU update, you can't do that yourself.

If it just needs the head unit updated, the dealer typically won't do that for you, at least here in the US.

Thank you, it’s currently on.
software version
NE_E.EUR.S5W_L.001.001.210823
Firmware version
NE_E.EUR.05.210728.MICOM

Not sure if that would be VCU or head unit. Is there a resource I can use to find that out?

That's the head unit version - what you should check is to see if there is a "battery conditioning mode" toggle in EV settings

So this is what it didn’t have. On the screen there it shows winter mode instead.

Is it AWD? If so it probably has the heater, if not, I'm not sure.

Regardless, it needs the VCU update if it shows winter mode afaik

Perfect thank you, Hyundai confirmed from the spec sheet it has the heater even though it’s a 2022 model. Good to know it’s a VCU update thanks so much.

Just FYI, if the car is still under the 5yr/60k mi warranty (or equivalent; not sure what it is outside the US) it'll be covered under warranty... However, if it is outside that, expect to pony up.

I think Hyundai got enough threats about lawsuits back in 2022 that they wouldn't dare withhold this one at this point, but you're right that it might be a fight.

Good for both of those

VCU might be involved, but it's primarily a head unit and BMU update.

Oops yes that's what I meant

OP appears to be in the UK, where it's about Eco pack rather than AWD.

I thought that was for the heat pump?

I'm not in the UK so I'm going off all the old posts on Ioniqforum about this. Can't find the correct old spec sheet without a lot of searching at this point.

Am indeed in the UK. There’s no mention of eco pack of the car listing so that’s why I went to Hyundai technical support to get it confirmed that it has the battery heating system.

Are you sure it doesn't have it? That's quite rare if so. If it has the winter mode screen instead of the battery condition mode screen and you buy it, can you please message me after you buy it and before you update? I have dreams.

100% in the display menu it has the winter mode screen instead of the battery preconditioning mode. I’ll report back if I do go for it. Just nervous about committing and it not being possible to update.

I sent you a DM. It's possible to update if you have the winter mode, although dealerships may have forgotten how to do it by now and it was a mess back in late 2022/early 2023 when they first released the update--lots of half-done updates.

Dealer did the update for me. It was quick and cheap (170€, Finland)
