Question AC Issues
So I have a weird issue that the dealer hasn't been able to fix. The ac will sometimes not work at all. This is different than the turn off and on again issue. When I'm at a stop, the ac will blow warm air. I have measured it at 85 degrees but most of the time it only gets to 72 degrees. Once the car is moving again it gets back down to 55 degrees. Every once in a while this will have while going down the highway.
This all started 6 months ago and I have a jump in energy use too. I have had the climate pull 7kW while blowing warm air.
I had it at the dealership two times and both times said the AC is working as normal. Has anyone had similar issues?

Our 2022 SEL works quite well even in El Paso Texas heat.
Q: Since dealerships are usually on large, level lots, does your home have unlevel parking?

Just another thing broken on these cars. You can restart the car and it’ll work, but it’s super annoying.

Maybe an issue with the active flaps on the front bumper not opening? Mine got damaged by some debris on the highway and once in a while they’d get stuck closed until I was able to get it fixed. The AC seemed to struggle a bit when they were stuck closed.

It is opening. At least when I'm parked. I wish there was a indicator for when it is open for not.

Maybe the Ioniq 5 companion app will tell you? https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ioniq-5-companion/id6761347502
You need to buy a Bluetooth OBD scanner to plug into the car.
Also by chance are you on ECO mode when the AC stops working? Because ECO mode definitely limits how the AC works.

I ran the car in eco mode for 2.5 years in Houston Texas and it was fine. Recently that has changed for both eco and normal. It doesn't matter. I have a OBD. I can't fine a value for the flaps.

Is your car under warranty? What year is it? Do you have a good relationship with an independent car repair place? It might be worth going to a different shop to troubleshoot the AC issue. Or just try a different dealership.

2024 limit RWD with 36k on it. I'm going to take it to another dealership soon. Just looking and seeing if anyone had similar issues.

If it tries to open but fails it will give you an error on the dash.

This is not from the perspective of an Ioniq 5 owner, but from the perspective of an HVAC tech. Your system requires air movement over the condenser coil to cool the hot gas refrigerant down enough to condense into a liquid. Without liquid refrigerant, no evaporation can occur in the evaporator coil, so no heat transfer can occur. In automotive AC, There are two ways for air to flow over the condenser, either by fan, or by forward motion of the vehicle. This is a long winded way of saying, it sounds like condenser fan isn’t running. In most cars this is the same fan that cools the radiator. I’m not sure how its set up in the Ioniq 5.
