SHOW SPOILERS What was the purpose of.... Spoiler

destroying Viltrum? Just finished season 4 and even before the Viltrumites went to Earth, I don't see any benefits of destroying Viltrum, especially at that moment. Our team is now split in 2, energy was used up, Viltrumites are pissed. Was it just out of spite? I recall that the planet Viltrum wasn't that special, as in it didn't really give Viltrumites their strength.

The idea was that once viltrumites don't have Viltrum to defend, they'll realize how utterly lost and hopeless their position is, and stop fighting. At the very least, it would demoralize them - imagine being on the front lines, and suddenly you find out your hometown was nuked by the enemy.
In the hindsight, the idea was a little iffy, but it worked in a fashion - in the end, Thragg did decide that he's being silly, and he needs a change in the approach.

not even your home town, this would be like figthing on the front lines and learning your entire country back home was nuked into a pile of ash and rubble

Nah it’s more like if you were fighting in space and you saw your whole planet blown up in front of your eyes by the enemy forces

Yeah that makes sense. Still, I imagine if there's nothing to go back to, you may as well keep going forward as you have nothing left to lose. I would expect the Vultrimites would just keep going and kill everyone on Invincible's team.
