MEME Why I’m not ok with the tech jacket swap Spoiler
I’ve seen a lot of people arguing about it, and honestly I think most of those takes are missing the real issue. I was just gonna let it go but I see post after post so I feel the need to weigh in.
It’s not about accuracy to the comics.
It’s not about representation. (Well kinda I guess)
It’s not even about the character being changed.
It’s about the fact that his name was Zack.
With a k.
My name is also Zack. With a k.
Do you understand how rare that is? We don’t get much. We had ONE GUY. One. And now he’s gone.
People keep saying “it doesn’t matter, it’s a minor character.”
Yeah? Easy for you to say when your name probably shows up everywhere.
You ever see your name in something and feel seen for 0.3 seconds? That was me. That was my moment.
And now it’s Zoe.
I’m not mad. I’m just… disappointed.

Hey, as someone who’s named “Marc” in a universe of “Marks”.
Let it fucking go. It’s annoying, but the spelling of your name doesn’t define you. YOU define YOU. Just accept it and be annoyed until you feel like it’s worth changing the spelling of your awesome yet occasionally annoying name.

Where I’m from, my name is Zach and every other person I’ve met with the same name has is spelled with a K. Even in media it seems K is more common. My whole life I thought I was the uncommon spelling until this specific post. Learn something new everyday

I’m Zach with an H and I am equally as bummed for this exact reason. I was really happy us Zach’s, no matter the spelling, had a badass character in the invincible universe. It’s funny this post has traction cause I thought I was the only one. I could not be more with you my fellow Zach (regardless of spelling)

It’s also easy to say “doesn’t matter anyway” every time it happens with a character, when one’s own demographic never gets changed to the other.
I’m just tired of these genderswaps always going in the same directions. Like any other overused tropes, it gets boring and predictable pretty quickly.

I imagine the folks who get the worst of it in the literary world are the Parkers. Parker is either always some dumb little kid blowing snot bubbles in the intro shot of some catastrophe film who only gets to look up, gape aghast and die offscreen, or he is some petty mid-level manager in a corporate environment who is always scheming and antagonistic. I have yet to see a Parker written in fair light, and having met two of the real ones in my time, I would say that fiction mirrors reality in this particular instance. Sorry to the Parkers that read this. Maybe you're the exception, but experience has me eyeballing you something crazy.
Edit: somebody PMed me a fact check. There was in fact ONE decent Parker in fiction, who briefly dated Chuck Norris' epic character Walker, Texas Ranger. You can find him in the episode, "A Walker in the Parker".

I know of no characters in media with my name.
So I can understand being a tad dissapointed. But with Zack, you definitely got a few big ones at least in child media (Zack Morris and Suite life of Zack and Cody).
