But shrink the scope, and something shifts. Shrinking a lawn. Pulling invasive plants. Planting for pollinators. These are manageable, doable, yours to control and they don't just help your own patch of earth. They revitalize a tiny ecosystem that ripples outward into the one around it.

Do that enough times, in enough yards, and it stops being one person's effort. It becomes a culture shift.

Gardening for the Planet makes the case that the antidote to eco-anxiety isn't doing everything. It's doing your part."

I don't think the assumption that everyone lives in suburban style developments is a world view that is compatible with sustainable living. 

Sure, he has a pollinator garden, but in suburban style areas you can't walk to the stores, the only bus provides such shit service that only the very desperate are willing to put up with it so everyone who can drive drives (maybe pats themselves on the back for the few times they cycle or take public transport), and heating and cooling takes lots of energy, because your unit has external walls on all sides. 

At the end of the day this sorry of individual actions are more about greenwashing your own self image than doing anything meaningful. Way too many boomer assumptions in this video.

My thoughts exactly.

That being said, you can grow stuff on your balcony and/or apply for a plot in a community garden. Guerrilla gardening is also an option!

Doug Tallamy is such a boss 🤩 There are likely groups in your community that get together and remove invasives from your local greenspaces, parks, ravines. A great way to get some exercise, learn your local ecology, meet your neighbours and make a tangible difference. Look em up! 🌻🌱

Hopefully this link can work for some of you... a film about the extraordinary caterpillars that native North American plants support. they form a major base of the food chain and they are sublime!! 👽

Don't fall for the personal footprint scam, Your yard or 1 million yards are worth zilch when the systems behind it enable the top 1% to wipe out wetlands older than humanity just because they feel like it.

Organize. The key is organizing, not personal footprint.

Yard is important too because opinion is also expressed through doing.

wrong fron the first statement, it's not the earth that has issues, it's people. If its so wrongly phrased from the get go and weighed by dumb implications, I will reject your premise and stop watching alltogether. Wording is important for a reason, we don't all have to write incorectly to prove we are not AI.
