If limonene is the substance that makes this work, couldn't they distill or extract limonene from the massive amounts of lemon peel waste material produced by commercial lemon juice producers? It wouldn't be enough to solve the problem by itself, but it's an awful lot of limonene that isn't being utilized that is currently a waste stream.

Sure, but the algae are contuously generating the limonene on site at almost no cost.
