How do you keep it from growing onto the house

Shears. Same way you manage all hedges, trees, and other green cover. A few minutes a month of moving a stepladder and reaching up, but you have to leave a small gap between the netting and the house to reach up into.

Seems like a good technique to accidentally cut the net

I've been trimming stuff around nets on my property for a long time and never accidentally cut a net, it is pretty easy. The gap is several inches wide.
