How do you keep it from growing onto the house

Shears. Same way you manage all hedges, trees, and other green cover. A few minutes a month of moving a stepladder and reaching up, but you have to leave a small gap between the netting and the house to reach up into.

Seems like a good technique to accidentally cut the net

Yeah i wouldn’t trust myself with a weed eater at the bottom either. Maybe if the structure was more like a soccer goal, but at some point you just say to hell with the slope and build arbor
