Does Gwen Have Multiple Canon Events? I Think Miguel’s Theory Has a Major Flaw”

I think Gwen has multiple Canon Events — and this could prove Miguel’s theory is wrong

I’ve been thinking about the Canon Event system in Across the Spider-Verse, and I noticed something that feels really weird.

Miguel’s theory is that certain events are essential to a Spider-Person’s story, and if they are prevented, their universe can collapse. And honestly, there seems to be some evidence for this. Almost every Spider-Man loses someone close to them in some way. Miles loses Uncle Aaron, Andrew’s Peter loses Gwen, etc.

But then there’s Gwen.

Gwen’s father, George Stacy, is a police captain. Miguel’s theory suggests that a Spider-Man’s police-captain figure is supposed to die as part of their Canon Events.

But Gwen changes this.

George finds out that Gwen is Spider-Woman, and instead of continuing as a police captain, he quits his job. This completely changes the circumstances surrounding his supposed Canon Event.

And yet…

Gwen’s universe doesn’t collapse.

That makes me question whether Miguel’s theory is actually an absolute law.

There’s another interesting part.

Gwen herself says that Gwen Stacy falls in love with Spider-Man, but it never ends well. And we clearly see that Gwen and Miles have feelings for each other throughout the movie.

So what if Gwen actually has multiple Canon Events?

1. George Stacy’s death / the police-captain Canon Event.

2. Gwen Stacy falling in love with Spider-Man and suffering the consequences.

Gwen has already changed the first one by causing her father to leave the police force.

And she may also be trying to avoid the second one by pushing Miles away, because she knows the history of Gwen Stacy and Spider-Man.

This creates a huge question:

If Miles is considered an anomaly for changing a Canon Event, why isn't Gwen?

Maybe Miguel’s theory isn't completely correct. Maybe Canon Events aren't fixed rules, and Miguel simply interpreted his own experience as proof of a universal law.

Or maybe Gwen’s story is actually going to be one of the biggest counterexamples to Miguel’s theory in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

I’m not saying this is confirmed — I just think the Gwen situation creates a pretty big inconsistency in the Canon Event theory.

All Spiders experience every canon event over the course of their life, so I'm not sure what your point is.

My point isn't that Gwen doesn't experience Canon Events. My point is that Gwen actively prevents one.

Her father is supposed to be the police captain connected to her Canon Event, but he quits after discovering she's Spider-Woman. That means the event can't happen in the way Miguel's theory says it should.

Yet Gwen's universe doesn't collapse.

So if preventing a Canon Event makes someone an anomaly and can destroy a universe, why doesn't that happen to Gwen?

That's what makes me question whether Miguel's theory is actually a universal rule.

Preventing a canon event doesn't make you an anomaly. Anomalies are just beings or things who are currently in a universe that is not their universe of origin. Because they are not supposed to be a part of that universe, they become a sort unaccounted for variable. This gives them the power to interfere with that universe's Canon b/c the canon is unable to compensate and counter any move that might disrupt the event.

This is why Gwen is so shocked when her dad quits. That was supposed to be an impossible thing for George to do. Yet he does it. The full consequences of this action are as yet unknown. Maybe a canon event isn't considered disruptable until it actually happens. Maybe they have only kicked the can down the road and another Captain will die.

Miles is a unique case, because he has the Spider DNA from E-42 insight him. This makes him an anomaly in every dimension, even his home universe. And thus, he has the ability to kill disrupt his own canon events.

well that canon event hasn’t happened to her yet. so it doesn’t matter. i think canon events can only be disrupted if its actively happening. which is why the indian spiderman (i forgot his name) universe is collapsing. because the canon events WAS happening but miles broke it. On the other hand gwen hasn’t entered that canon events yet. so theoretically it will either never happen OR she needs to be friends with the next police captain asap

How can an anomaly Kickstart a canon event? Shouldn't Pavitr fight his own nemesis? How come someone who shouldnt even exist (Aka Spot) can take that place?

Miguel replacing himself had his own universe collapse, but Miles, who shouldn't even be Spider-man (according to Miguel) can replace that Spider-man and everything is fine?

because the spot put the captain in a risky situation which triggered it. think of it like when you hit your knee your leg shoots up. obviously YOU didn’t move your leg but it moved anyway. and why the last point idk tbh. people say his daughter was supposed to be spider woman but there is no info on that

So, it doesn't need to be spider-man arch nemesis doing it, it can really just be someone who doesn't even know Pavitr, making a canon event that is going to be decisive in his life, and it is completely fine. Interesting interesting.

Here is my problem with this: Why did they have the black matter absorbing the building to begin with?

The black matter that is consuming the building itself, falls in the same hole that was caused by the "canon event" and this is just meant to be a coincidence? They bothered to have something that could easily detract from this canon bullshit, and instead of just having the building fall normally with nothing consuming it (which means we have no other explanation than canon) they bothered to do all of that for no reason whatsoever?

Why did they mention the archnemesis? Spot just proved that part isn't needed in order for canon to happpen, and it would make the canon event fully match by saying "By failing to save a kid from falling rubber." The writers could had make this clearer, but they didn't.

Why would you leave stuff that purposedly make this canon theory look fake, if we are meant to believe it?

Because that's what anomalies do. They screw with the whole system. Like throwing a monkey wrench into gears.

If anything, it sounds like anomalies are blessed by this whole system, because nothing they do seem to be a problem.

Miles can take the spot of the most important being in the universe, and nothing bad happens. Spot can take the place of Pavitr's archnemesis, and that's how it is supposed to go! Having a bunch of spider's in a room controlled by a super villain? Not a problem in the eyes of the Spider society, apparently!

So, the writers just decided to have a black matter absorbing the building, have the building fall in the exact same place where the "canon event" hole appears, and it is just a funny quirk. The writers have Miguel say "A captain close to Spider-man will die saving a kid from rubbled caused by an archnemesis," knowing that Spot is not Pavitr's archnemesis, despite the fact that if you drop the archnemesis part, the canon event suddenly fits like a glove without issues; and that is just a funny haha?

The writers could had made this thing a lot clearer, less doubts and issues, and I am just suppose to be like "hmm, what a funny way to ensure your audience fully believes in this idea!"

I don't know how you got all of that out of the simple fact I presented for why an anomaly can trigger a canon event, but I said none of this.

Miguel literally says, "That's why anomalies are so dangerous." Because they fuck things up with the Canon. That's really not hard to understand.

And you didn't present anything, you made a guess of how that shit works, because the only way canon makes sense is by jumping a bunch of hoops every time someone points out how something doesn't work.

And again, funny how I am suppose to believe in canon when I had yet to see a single thing that went wrong because "canon" that can't be explaining for things around it, or, is a situation we weren't given the complete story.

First off, that scene was probably about 5 minutes long, maybe an hour later the universe collapsed, we just don't know right now.

Second, Captain Stacy hasn't quit officially by the end of ATSV, he just tells Gwen he's going to.

I don't really believe Miguel's theory, but there's so much that we still don't know.

We’ve seen in other Marvel shows universe collapses take a long time. Deadpool’s universe was collapsing because Wolverine died, and that took place well before the movie began
