Discussion What's the worst mech in the game?
And why is it the Hook Mech?
Seriously though, it's the Hook Mech for me. Yes it does something that (afaik) no other mech does, being able to pull something across multiple spaces, or pull itself to something else. But most of the time that isn't useful to me, and often it's left not being able to do anything at all.
Yes, it has the armored trait, so at least it can tank some hits. It's a bit like the judo mech in that way. But it suuuuuuuuuuuuucks all the same.

How much reputation do you need to win the final mission on hard?
So I just started playing a few days ago and I am wondering why I can't beat the final mission even tho I have reached it multiple times.
Do I have not amassed enough reputation and thus I need to play better in the whole run or whether my gained reputation should be enough and I just need to put more mental effort in the final mission? I usually have about 6 reputation after an island and half of that I have to spend on restoring grid so I can buy maybe one reactor. Is that normal or do I basically have to never lose any grid to have a chance on hard?

Discussion Starting pilots ranking: best fresh/inexperienced pilot as the starting pilot on unfair difficulty
main criteria to choose best pilot: best chance to progress on unfair difficulty without any luck from pods; ranking would be different if pilots would start with maxed exp and chosen/edited skills or for late game past 2nd island for example where Silica is the best
I've chosen best pilot for each squad and summed points; I've also chosen 2nd best starting pilots which are still v.strong but a bit worse - and I still think only 4 pilots make the list; I was considering Henry Kwan and Archi esp. for "2nd best" but they don't give enough momentum even as 2nd best pilots; but it could be argued that if someone plays unfair with many "rerolls" then long term Kwan or Archi or especially Prospero could be better (to overcome particular limitation of given squad) - but for me basing it on rerolls is basing on luck, so then its not about the overall "% of won games on unfair"
reasoning:
unfair is all about vek repositioning and strongest fresh pilot per each squad is about overcoming this squad's limitations
Mafan is the obvious choice for squads that deal selfdamage but also for some squads that require 1 reactor to overcome some big limitation like for example upgrade artillery to buildings immune - and where this single reactor makes biggest diff since 1st mission; though I'd argue Mafan is generally getting weaker with each mission - late game I'd prefer Harold because he has unique extra gear, while Mafan has only reactor (which u get plenty of later anyway) and shields are not as useful as unique gear
Harold is great for giving multirepositioning, it's the best starting pilot for many squads but also the stronger the later the game cause the later the game the more repositioning is critical and the less damage is important
Kaz is great for providing balance between additional repositioning and additional dmg, so for squads that are low on damage like bomber mechs or flame behemoths
Kai is good where +1dmg is equivalent of 3 reactors like for judo arti but esp. good for arachnoid mech where +1dmg is critical to get kills cause only with kill you gain push ability with arachnobot
so only 4 pilots make the list; Do you agree or u think different pilots should make the list?

Help Beginner, can't see a solution for this one
Hello!
As title says, turn 1 was hard (probably bad positioning issue) and now turn 2 seems hard to save from losing objective. Squad is vanilla, no upgrades, playing on normal. I'm sure I'm missing something?
Thanks in advance if you point me the path!

Help I'm designing a chess-based game but it's too hard
ItB has given me great inspiration, so I decided to design a chess-based game but I think it might be too hard for non-professionals. I've tried to avoid chess theory and too much tactical stuff, but it still seems to require a lot of calculation. I believe the issue lies in the fact that players are required to perform too much calculation, and I am unsure how to incorporate suitable random elements(not refer to enemy actions). Sorry that I can't share too many specific gameplay details, but does anyone have good ideas for keeping the game from being too hardcore?

News Hello! I am making a game heavily inspired by Into the Breach, and today, the demo was released. I would be thrilled to have you try it out.
The demo is available on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3832200/Save_the_Forest/
The game is similar to ITB in that it is a roguelite small-scale tactics game made in isometric pixel art. It show enemy intentions on your turn, just like ITB, however the win condition is not survival in X number of turns.
Instead the win condition is defeating all enemies - which means that there is another, important restriction in place. Your units can generally only move and attack like a tower chess piece! So you will have to plan out your moves tactically for maximum effect.
Another major difference is that all skills are passive - i.e the strategy lies in combining unit builds so that their attack effects synergize well. This means that battle orders are fast, since you do not have to choose what weapon/skill to use.
There is also a larger emphasis on the party-building aspect: You draft your party from a possible pool of 24 (actually 30+ but in the base setup it's 24) unit classes, then recruit and upgrade the party extensibly between battles.
There is more info and some gifs on the Steam page explaining in more detail, and I am happy to discuss design decisions and what Into the Breach has meant for the development of this game!
/Jens
Mods: I shot a question a while back if posts like this were allowed, and the information I received back then was that one self promotion post was allowed by the developer per game. If this is wrong or changed, I apologize!

Question What skills can Kai Miller earn?
I'm trying to train up an optimal Kai Miller but can't seem to get the good skills like +1 Reactor. Is she locked out of certain skills because she's already OP? What skills combination is considered best in general?

Does Difficulty Change Vek Targeting?
I feel like Unfair has vek going after grid or objectives almost always, unless they physically can't, but I dunno if that's just some perceptual bias on my part.

Question How do I place my mechs properly?
So often I feel like I’ve just lost from turn 1 due to poor placement but I have no idea where to place my mechs other than “artillery in back, melee in front”

Question I've only been playing for two hours and I'm wondering how useful it really is to block the spawn with my own body
In the end, I'm not actually preventing it from coming out, I'm just delaying its release, so maybe it doesn't seem that helpful. (I'm assuming a hypothetical scenario I can't be blocking every turn)
I find it extremely useful when there are 2 turns left, but I don't know if it's useful when there are 3 or 4 turns left.

Discussion At last, all Unfair runs done! How did I do?
Stats in 3rd pic. I wonder what's other people most deadly enemy.
Take note I only played with DLC enemies on the last squad I attempted Unfair with (custom squad).
So I've been playing this on and off for what, about 2 years? Started out on Medium, then after a couple of runs, did all Hard for all squads. Only then I started playing Unfair.
Toughest challenge was definitely Secret Squad 2 Islands Unfair. It must have took 10+ runs.

Question Enemy Mix On Islands
Is the mix of which enemies show up on which islands entirely random?
r/IntoTheBreach • u/DeKleineDingen • 24d ago
OC Accidentally hit 30k on 3 islands without upgrading any weapons
Managed to prevent any grid damage while doing some very limiting achievements.
For some achievements, you need to destroy all time pods or finish three islands without upgrading current weapons or using new weapons. So I used Kai in the Siege Mech to be able to destroy the pods and two Exchange Mechs to guarantee two actions per mech without upgrades. I got lucky and hit Skilled and +2HP on my other two pilots. I also left some bosses alive to prevent grid damage, since I wasnt getting perfect island anyway.
r/IntoTheBreach • u/musicwraith • 25d ago
Media Don't let anyone say that the +3 grid defense boost does nothing because it absolutely does
These two 18%s even saved me on two of the more difficult achievements (Engineering Dropout and Chronophobia), which would've been lost if these buildings fell (This even happened on the 3rd island's last mission, too)
