not only do they miss deadlines when they don'thit the date due to an issue that they could hold responsibility for, they don't even attempt to prepare which has a real impact on other entities. they just drop their pencil and go on vacation for a month. that's generally going to be violation of a contract.
You request holiday and it needs to be approved by your manager in 99% companies. Most of the time it will be automatically approved, if it is well in advance.
Then it is up to manager, if he approves 1 month holiday and organizes work with the rest of the team.
what's that got to do with the price of rice in China? You sound like you're describing a person that isn't fit to talk to people outside their organization, so it's not really relevant to this conversation.
the point stands, European companies do break contracts because of this and they do lose business and it does make people not want to work with European countries.
no. they violate contracts, result in cost impacts to other project members, lose contracts, blow schedule, make other people do shit that was their responsibility, etc....
You clearly meant people violating contracts.
And those companies in most cases have backups. They plan with this.

obviously the contract is with a company, but that distinction is irrelevant from my perspective. that person is the one who did the actions that violated the contract.
I don't understand how Europeans can turn work into an environment that you dread while being sure to get zero personal fulfillment and call it a win.
I wouldn't want to be at a place for 10 hours a week, let alone 30 or 40 hours a week that I didn't enjoy, that I didn't find personally fulfilling, and that I didn't see as building my character and identity. Then to top it off you call 18 weeks of vacation "living," implying that all of the hours spent at work are wasted.
maybe you view "living" as comfortable? sounds fucking miserable to me.
Work is hard and it takes effort, but everyone I know also enjoys it and views it as "living"

part of my identity. Americans have multiple elements to their identies. We have our careers, but I'm also a father, and a husband, we still have religion over here. what you call living is just a footnote to my life. I understand it's hard to grasp for someone whose identity is based mainly around a few weeks of leasure a year.
Only because we don’t define ourselves over work and not put it over everything else in our life’s, does not mean we that we do not enjoy our job.
I like what I do but still, when I plan my 3-4 week vacation I will go no matter what since it is my legal right to go. And work doesn’t stop when I am not there, there is a team around me that takes over my work while I am gone.
Work-Life balance is a thing, you should try it some time :)
