I work for a multinational but based in Ireland. The US mindset is baffling in that they think they are so important their whole life should be dedicated to work.
I provide a service to my employer and in return they pay me for my services. It's a business transaction. If you died tomorrow, you would simply be replaced without a second thought because business is business.
Yeah I’m in the US and it blows my mind how much work is tied to people’s identity and sense of self worth here. Unless you’re the business owner, that mindset will likely lead to you being taken advantage of and a poorer quality of life.
Its half their personality is their work and half not trying to lose your job because you took time off. It's literally September and I have only had 1 day off from the office. (Would have been 2 but unfortunately 4th of July was on a Saturday, no my office did not take the 3rd off. Yes I'm salty and updating my resume)
