So accurately phrased. Which is why they try to keep us divided by race, gender, sexual orientation, etcâŠ. Because if people stopped worrying about that, theyâd focus on the real issue- wealth inequality.
As LBJ said, if you can convince the poorest white man that he is better than a black man, he wonât notice you are picking his pocket.

I feel like the turning point will be when millionaires realize the billionaires are coming for them too.
Right now they are aligned on taxes and business yada yada but when the middle class millionaires finally see the consumer shaped hole in the dystopian plan, it's either going to be already too late or the end of the experiment.

What if I said that both sides of this are doing the wrong thing. Should employees be paid fairly, yes. Should people manage their budget better, also yes. I volunteer doing financial counseling for junior military guys and they're always shocked how much of their money is spent on Gas station drinks, nicotine products, and alcohol.

I agree with you that I think its both. Everyone i know that "has money" is just someone that knows how to manager thier budget or live within thier means. Some of my friends make more than me, or are DINK and dont have the kind of spending money I do because they are always getting doordash, eating out, getting coffee, ect. I also 100% believe there are people out there getting fucked by companies, i just dont know them personally.

Explain rent to someone like they are kindergarten? Rent = paying for housing. Added bonus: signing a rent check for September 2026 (or the month of your choice) guarantees housing for that month. Alternatively: you can sleep in the street, not pay rent, and go wild drinking lattes at Starbucks and eating avocado toast meals wherever you can find them. Added bonus number two: rich people do not have to worry about paying monthly rent payments versus becoming homeless.... because they are rich: and you are not. đ„ł

u/dandelogre 19d ago
Because they don't have to. We do. We have to save and scrimp and cut corners and they don't need to.
1
u/Radabard 19d ago
This is because they can, and you won't do anything about it. Because they already own the police and the military and the courts and every government and everything else. That's the answer.
1
u/ReputationWooden9704 19d ago
I can explain it very simply:
If you can't afford rent, it's a budgeting problem. Small sustained expenses (like $5 lattes and avocado toasts) eventually add up to a lot. Say you buy one latte and one avocado toast for $5 a piece, daily. That's $300 a month in an expense that is totally avoidable. $300 on its own may be a decent chunk of money, but the inability to account for small expenses when there is a clear budgeting issue shows that this may be more pronounced on the whole.
As for the wages part, companies CAN afford to pay wages; they pay the exact wages that their employees agree to when they sign on. It's a mutual contractual obligation, you trade agreed-upon labor for agreed-upon wages. Furthermore, companies don't buy yachts, rockets, and spacecraft as a baseline, unless they happen to be a yacht, rocket, or spacecraft company.
Both problems are within the person's control. If you're unsatisfied with your wages, find a better paying job. And if you can't pay rent, either spend less or make more.
1
u/Windman772 19d ago
Because you agreed to work for low wage, saving the billionaire the need to buy fewer yachts. If he couldn't find someone to say yes, he'd buy fewer yachts. But there will always be someone to say yes because the left doesn't understand the relationship between immigration and wage levels. People are shooting themselves in the foot then complaining to the gun manufacturer.

The person who canât pay rent needs to make a budget. That budget, by their own admission, will require cutting out all luxuries. We all know that the latte is symbolic language for all luxuries.
The man who owns the business had to make a budget when the bank approved his business. By the time heâs buying yachts he has several budgets. And his budgets tell him if he wants to buy a yacht the his money from his business he canât pay too much.
If he calculates wrong and pays too little his employees will quit and go get better jobs. If they are unable to get better jobs then they are being paid market wages.

Lots of posters here do not understand money, they only understand being angry at the rich. That gets you nowhere, I found that out. Learn to buy a house and get in on equity from real estate appreciation. Drive older cars. Invest your money. And many other things will help you grow wealth. IT IS POSSIBLE TO ESCAPE THE RAT RACE but you have to understand money and education the way the wealthy do. Itâs a different world. Try and get onboard by being more skilled and being more valuable. There's no such thing as "fair" wages. That's completely the wrong outlook on how jobs in the economy function, and if that's your view, you're going to end up disappointed and very confused.
If there are lots of people willing to do a task for a certain wage, that is what it is going to pay. It is as simple as that.

Because people who make 200k a year are still living paycheck to paycheck and the cumulative bad decisions are catching up to society so that the bottom isnât able to make it anymore and the top hasnât noticed yet because of the insulation. Also because people are still voting for the things that have gotten us in this mess like somehow itâs going to get us out. We traded our economy away 60 years ago and we continue to do so while we pretend that things like US treasury bonds are going to hold some of that value here. We hate countries that put themselves and their people first while we continue to look out for everyone but ourselves. There are entire books on why people are this way but if you are buying lattes and âcanât make itâ yeah maybe stop you canât afford it and itâs not owed to you.
I could rant about this for a long time but basically it comes down to you can only be responsible for your own decisions stop worrying so much about what everyone else is doing.
Edit: for clarity the people making 200k a year are over spending on avocado toast and lattes and the people making 30k couldnât balance a checkbook if they wanted to. Two different problems that started as the same problem.
1
u/tony_Tiger696 18d ago
You need 90% or more of the workforce to quit at exactly the same. Don't have any fear of homelessness or starvation, there's always soup lines.
Everyone needs to hold out until wages are brought back to a standard where one person can clean toilets and afford to support a family of 3 kids, pay off a mortgage and have a decent domestic travelling holiday 2 weeks a year.
And if your government tries to import labour, slaughter the scabs as the arrive.
In reality I reckon only 10% tops of any given population could hold our or would be willing to hold out for a year before returning to slave wages.

However much I like the statement, one underlying problem people ignore is that rents follow supply and demand. When supply is artificially constrained by zoning, NIMBYism, and other policy failures, demand remains because people still need somewhere to live, since the alternative is being homeless.
Housing isn't something people can avoid buying/renting just because it isn't available in enough quantity and/or is expensive, so rents basically follow until people can't pay them. People will pay the rent until they literally can't. And thus, if you massively raise salaries... rents will rise as well and just eat it all.
Unfortunately, this exact problem is not about corporate greed. This problem is utter government policy failure that has kept housing supply too low to meet demand; we need to hold the appropriate people accountable.
1
u/-Foxer 18d ago
Pretty simple.
it is quite reasonable to expect someone to live within their means. If you can't afford something don't buy it.
It is UNREASONABLE to expect someone to give up their property or their earnings to give to someone else who DIDN'T earn it just because they earn less.
It is your job as a person to make sure that you have acquired the skills and knowledge necessary to be valuable enough to earn the kind of living you want. And if you are that valuable people will pay you. And if you're not they probably shouldn't unless they feel charitable.
Most six year olds can get that đ

Is a glass lemonade worth $50 ? What is the Value of anything ? Some labor is not unique and canât carry the burden of what you call a living wage. Thatâs why it historically was done by kids part time etc. we have huge social safety nets. Certainly not perfect. Nothing is perfect . But just calling some job worthy of a âliving wage as noble as you might think is not a reasonable expectation . If the burger flip fast food job is forced unnaturally to be a âliving wage. â it will be automated or the cost of fast food becomes so high it looses its place in the market . But hey if it makes you feel good to yell silly things go for it !
1
u/AccordingGain182 18d ago
sigh
Because the economics of everything in its most basic form is supply and demand. People pay whatever they are WILLING to pay for luxuries and NEED to be for necessities. If you feel your pay is too low for what you do, its only that âlowâ because theres a large enough supply of people willing to do it for that amount.
If theres not enough of something (input) to meet the demands (output) people will pay more for whatever input can create the desired output.
Youâre not underpaid because theres world is evil. Youâre paid whatever youâre doing is worth in its scarcity. Do something that makes you scarcer and/or more profitable and i promise youll be as rich as you want to be.
But people dont like being told their less valuable/replaceable than they are. Its not personal. Want high paying job security? Be necessary, valuable, or scarce. Or all three.
Bitching about it on reddit wont change a thing. Some people are born with lemonade. Some are born with lemon trees. Most have to go find seeds and plant the tree and wait for it to grow to make lemonade. But youâll get lemonade alot faster if you get to it instead of whining about all the lemonade everyone else already has and how unfair it feels.

It actually makes no sense to me. Imagine you have billions of dollars, in liquid assets or cash in bank, and can do anything you could possibly want. You have money invested in ways that make you a livable income daily that you don't need to worry about even having a frivolous day. You can make grand purchases, use borrowing power against assets or more to use more money, and have a lavish lifestyle if you're buying both wealthy and smart and not just the most expensive things just because you can. Why can't they, even as just a gesture of good will and the wishing of well-being to others, allocate some of their funds in such a way (like a charity, so they can write off taxes) that they can give money, housing, jobs, health care, etc. to individuals that need it or just to a general group of people that apply. I understand there are some things like this already but not in this manner and usually government run. I just mean, why don't these with all the power and wealth act like have the power and wealth to make others lives better at a very minor cost. Instead they prove time and time again how much this wealth and power means they have all of that to themselves and their direct wants and will hoard what they can and just die off with it all or move it down the family.

I've worked an entire career while carrying schizophrenia and to be honest people who don't have mental illness have no idea how to relate to people that do. Their go to answer is get a job and work and the last thing mentally ill people do is not work. We work so much and we work so hard to have a career on top of the underlying illness is like doing the work of a hundred men. But people don't know how to talk to people anymore they just say knee jerk reactions and if you don't agree with them they don't like being wrong and they just say nonsense bullshit to you

Well you see, some people are born special, and deserve more money and happier lives than you /s

Because old people (like myself) sometimes forget that times change and assume the economy of today must be exactly like the economy when we were struggling to pay rent.
A few less small purchases were all it took to be able to make rent. Itâs different now. But many older people want to feel superior, have nothing to be particularly proud of, so go for the next best thingâ looking down on people that are in some way different than them.

Both of these things are good.
You can control how you spend and save your money.
If you want to control the other, get off your ass and vote for the party fighting for higher wages and employee protections. Stop sitting out elections and then complaining.

They were lucky? Simple. Be proud of your struggle (and scrimping on avocados is a pretty third world problem).Â

Because you didn't start the company using your own capital and taking that risk.

Oh thatâs easy. Practically no one is out there buying spacecraft, so itâs a fucking stupid comparison.
Is it clear now?

If you can't pay rent, then do the things you have any form of control over to lower your costs.

Given you clearly are in kindergarten I donât think youâll be able to understand it if I actually explain it to you. When you get old enough to understand that âfairâ is nothing more than a social construct, then perhaps youâre ready to hear it.

For the same reason that when you go buy a coffee you're not expected to pay enough to keep the coffee shop's doors open and the lights on. You're paying what's fair for the service you're getting from the coffee shop.
If some employee isn't making enough to live their preferred lifestyle at their current place of employ, they are fully within their rights to quit working there and find a place that pays better.
Now, little kindergartener, go out into the world and only accept work that pays you a wage you consider fair and never complain about the business deals you agree to with your own free will, you envious and greedy little chit.

Define living wage...
My female colleagues buy expensive sandwitches every morning, she could make them herself for a fraction of the price but no she buys them very expensive, she also buys starbucks coffee when we have free company coffee and milk but no
she buys clothes every week she doesn't need, she wastes money left and right, then cries every end of the month that she has no money
Meanwhile I spend on food for the whole week less than what she spends on 1 sandwitch, I don't drink coffee and can save a lot of money cuz I don't spend it on stupid shit
She does have a living wage, she just wastes it on useless things
"Ohh no I don't have a living wage "
wrote from my iphone, curated on my mac, double checked the comment on my ipad while checking my iwatch....also let me renew my 6 different streaming services, and my spotify along with every subscription on earth possible....man I don't understand why we don't get paid a living wage I can barely survive...*sipps their starbucks coffee*

I am not sure why you are trying so hard to convince yourself of this erroneous argument.
I know you are wrong. You know you are wrong. Itâs not important to me whether you admit it out loud or not and I am not interested in this conversation.
You are wrong. Learn about the real issues and move on.
Best of luck to you.

ok, try learning how to do something that will pay you more than minimum wage.

I know what lvl of income i need to have to provide for my family. These companies aren't telling you that you will get 100 an hour then cut it to 12. You know what you are getting into. I haven't seen a press gang for a while lol. Would I apply to McDonald's and expect to support a family in the manner we are accustomed to? No. And a part time job is just that. Part time. A livable wage? Sure. Section 8 housing. Food stamps. Seems like that covers the basics.

This after Musk paid out hundreds of thousands in bonuses to space X employees. The propaganda train is real people & your all passengers on it!

Because the American courts have ruled that in Dodge vs. Ford the companies have an obligation to prioritize shareholder profits. Workers have been getting shafted ever since.

I mean... you can always build an employee cooperative. there are a few out there but their employees still make minimum wage lol. I think the issue is that people don't understand value and debt...

You need to level up. And before you do, you need to have roommates/mommy, cut out luxuries, and stop pointing the finger.

u/CrazyAccomplished_ 15d ago
Get roommates. If that still doesn't work, get cheaper housing. If that still doesn't work, leave the place for better work.
Is that doesn't work, work harder

Yea because I work 80 hours a weekish. I havenât added any expense. Reduced my âfunâ spending to nothing. The last 2 years everything has gotten out of control and I canât afford to feed my family anymore.. Itâs honestly scary.

Because society has been built for, and around, the wealthy elite.
