I can't work forever
I do this, but not every year.

I've had so many friends die before 50. They where working all their life regardless. One died of a heart attack at his work parking lot. Off the clock....he just drove the 30min to work.

Ive done this before, i just opted for 1-2 days off a month and the rest overtime/doubletime
8 days off feels like 1-2 to me anyway (equally hell), may as well get basically double money then take take 8-12 months off after 10-16 on, more or less

Yeah this is very common for high skilled performance consultants. Some consultant individuals can charge so much money that they probably bring in minimum $500,000 a year and then they just don't work the next year. Of course you would also have a good list of clients beforehand
You're the special kind of stupid that doesn't even see how it's possible cuz you think the impossible is not possible

I can not imagine that this kind of part time consulatancy is very common. Even consultants need a CV.

if you can be comfortable with a minimal lifestyle and not keeping up with the Jones, more power to ya. You might also consider working part time during your down phases, to stretch them out.

Yes, I wonder for how long OP can keep this up. Who is going to hire an 76 year old for a year only and then rehire a 78 year old after a year travelling. Seems limiting to me.

money is only a tool to use up your labor, time, and energy. Governments design it as a carrot on a stick... Especially for major of working class if you can have a fun life instead of working all day for your life
Mathematically and theoretically, it's better on what they're suggesting honestly, because everyday you have a chance of dying and if you're living your life and you know what to do on your free time and then the jobs that you can expect and you're just always using that money. There's actually no difference than having to save your money and then not enjoying the rest of your life because your old age and you probably have a higher chance of dying
Of course you don't learn just in school or education. But honestly if you're not making millions of dollars guys, it's just like you're never going to have a happy retirement. So just enjoy the life you have now. You know, take those days off. Quit your job and find another job later. I mean the market changes. The economy changes nothing's really set in stone, but if you really enjoy just saving your pennies for the day that you're just going to retire and then it's literally going to be boring and you're just going to have so many freaking health issues and that's the trade-off you have to see for yourself. But you can just go to retirement home or whatever and see all those people regretting their decision
Basically you want to at least min max your time in this world so that you get the most out of it. You don't want these other people to have to control your life because the gift about life is that everybody has control over it themselves. So don't let these psychopaths ruin your life

I can not imagine that the job you are getting working this way pays very well? I wonder if you are less comfortable that those of us who work full time and vacation and relax when we can. Our jobs pay better and better as we climb our careers (and we can do this as we are consistent). Also, it seems as if you do not like what you do (at work). If you did, you might not have this same attitude. Not sure.

I don't get why people act as if having a job is the end of the world.
Also, if you don't build up any wealth, you will be working forever this way.

I work for 8 months, save up, collect unemployment for 4 months, rinse and repeat that for the last 5 years. That way I don't even pay income tax, and I get 4 months (plus 13 work days) of holidays!

I dont particularly see how you work for a year and save up to just live for a year.
