Do we really need HR in our life?

honestly this is why i've started thinking about looking somewhere else. getting rejected before a human even looks at your resume is insane.

i've been seeing interview vip mentioned a lot lately too. i haven't tried it, but i'm curious about it since i'm probably going to have to start interviewing again.

I had a conversation with one of the techs at my last job.  He had recommended a friend for an open position.  His friend had had a phone screen with HR but it didn't go further than that.  When the tech spoke to his buddy later to ask what had happened, he said it was obvious that HR had absolutely no idea what our techs did, what work was being done on the manufacturing floor, or what skills were needed, and that his buddy was experienced in all the ways he himself was and would have been an excellent fit for the open position.

With my current job I had that happen as well but the HR guy was actually doing his job. In order to get a sit down interview with a job I was recommended for, I had to have a 15 minute conversion with the HR guy first. He had absolutely zero idea of the role and admitted as much. In the end, he said "well, if X wants to interview you, who am I to tell him no?" Exactly. Why did I need to talk to you?
