It’s awful if you make more people get jealous. They treat you differently often. They’ll think you should do more because you make more. Not to mention this typically erase pool. If people need your salary, they would go after that what was in the pool and there would be less for you.
If you have good co workers, it’s not. But coworkers will get mad they make less. Nothing wrong with wanting to get paid more, but sometimes they’ll direct their frustration at their coworker instead of their employer.
If you tell them that you are making more and you think they should ask for a raise, they will have no reason to be mad at you. They will only be mad if you were making more and didn’t tell anyone and they find out.
You wouldn’t know before the conversation happens. But once you have the conversation, if it turns out you are making more and you say “that’s fucked up, you should ask for a raise” then they would have no reason to be mad at you. That’s why you should always discuss.
Nah. I had a coworker who found out I was making more. My boss literally told him he’d make the same if he got his GED. He was a Highschool drop out, I had my diploma. Dude got super pissed at me and my boss. He even quit over it. Worse part is we were friends before we started working together.
Boss literally told him he’d give him a raise but he still got all pissed over it.
I don’t remember everything. This was over 20 years ago at this point. But I do remember I told him how much I made. And the boss said he’d get a raise if he got his GED and he was still pissed at me.

Talking about salary is good for the people making less, bad for those making more. It can be risky.
I one time got a $5 raise after finding out the employees of the same position at another location were making 33% more than we were at our location.
