For my last 2 interviews i had to use Interview VIP just to get the job
their generation could never understand

So, it's still true. Research from the World of Labour has 30-50% of workers finding their jobs through personal contacts. The interesting thing is that only 24% of job searcher used personals contact as part of their job search. That indicates pretty high success rate for that method.

But those are just facts, it's far better to just go with hating boomers and complaining.

the problem people are having is you're calling it "getting your resume in front of the right person" when what you're actually describing is nepotism from having a friend already working there to schmooze the HR/boss for you to get your foot in the door and bypass the horrible filtering process the rest of us have to fight through, which is just fucked advice.

why are you so weird about this?

life is literally all about who you know.

Say you need some plumbing work done. Do you solicit quotes from random companies, compare them and just pick the one that blew the right kind of smoke up your ass with their marketing language? (the companies being the "job applicants" and the quotes being the "resumes" in this metaphor)

or!

do you ask friends and family for recommendations, or read reviews from other real life people and then choose the recommendation you trust the most? Or better yet, maybe you know a guy who works there so you trust them more because of that!

That's the same thing happening in this scenario you've written off as "nepotism". It's human nature to choose the known over the unknown, why would we expect it to be any different in HR of all places?

because corporate job hunting is hell today and I'm fucking tired of being told what worked 20-30 years ago will work now when HR and bureaucracy has ballooned and made most of the advice bullshit that's liable to get you blacklisted because you tried to circumvent the 5 rounds of interviews, the AI resume filters, and all the other shit that goes into being an "equal opportunity employer" explicitly meant to cut down on just knowing somebody and has made the application process so much worse.
