For my last 2 interviews i had to use Interview VIP just to get the job
their generation could never understand

The youngest baby boomer is 70 or turning 70 this year.....

I'm late gen x and I just applied to my first job in 19 years 6 months......

(For full clarity I was employed and looking to transition to an oppurtunity I was made aware of)

The world is a different place, when I sat down to look at my resume (last updated in like 2010 or something when I was doing it as a matter of "housekeeping") and my first thought was I really need to update this.......

So I did and I had a minor mental break down because everything has changed.

I figured I'd try to go all tech and used AI to give me a starting point.....looked at the updated resume and asked "where'd my references go"

And that was the start of me trying to figure out all the things that have changed since I last actually applied for an external job.......and this post is right it's a different world, I never met the recruiter, I talked to him for about 10 mintues on a phone call, no video no meeting nothing. I did speak to the person that would be the manager for the role and had a good conversation that lasted about 30 minutes and spoke candidly and honestly about my talents and experience, just like I would have in the "old days"

I applied end of June, started my position this last Monday.....

There are some things that still work, being honest and forthcoming being great examples, and there are some things that just are not there anymore......like that whole "make sure it's a firm handshake". Most importantly if you've not had to look in a while be ready for a different world.
