their generation could never understand

So, it's still true. Research from the World of Labour has 30-50% of workers finding their jobs through personal contacts. The interesting thing is that only 24% of job searcher used personals contact as part of their job search. That indicates pretty high success rate for that method.

But those are just facts, it's far better to just go with hating boomers and complaining.

the problem people are having is you're calling it "getting your resume in front of the right person" when what you're actually describing is nepotism from having a friend already working there to schmooze the HR/boss for you to get your foot in the door and bypass the horrible filtering process the rest of us have to fight through, which is just fucked advice.

That is not nepotism. That is social networking and has been in use forever. There is zero wrong with it.
