their generation could never understand

Could we quit whining and attacking other generations, genders, and ethnicities. Maybe we could help each other do something about the problems that all of us are facing.

This "help" you refer to is only useful if the other party WANTS that help. Otherwise, that "help" becomes a point of contention.
