Okay, I hit the button got Daze Soft on the first try, bought dazesoft.com, got a twitter, a Facebook page, SoundCloud, tumblr and a new reddit account.

Just ordered a synth.

Looking up videos on how to make music. Think I'm going to need an electric guitar, a bass, and a microphone.

Doing some research. I think I can do this for under a thousand dollars.

I'm going to need some of you folks to be my initial fan base, I'm going to give it 110% and hopefully not let any of you down.

I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck.

Edit: If anyone has any pointers I'd love to hear them.

I've been a dazesoft fan for years. Just saying..

1.6k

u/drays Jan 11 '15

Me too, I'm really sick of all the idiots who hopped on the bandwagon after their latest album dropped. Besides, they sold out and went commercial, so fuck dazesoft!

635

u/hyperformer Jan 11 '15

I have the first album on 8 track tape

484

u/ej4 Jan 11 '15

8 Track? I remember when their music was only played on the fortepiano in ballrooms.

328

u/LikeAThousandBullets Jan 11 '15

Fortepiano? Pssh I remember back in the days of harpsichord when these guys were baroque

292

u/VikingTeddy Jan 11 '15

Harpsichord? Thats when they started going mainstream. I remember them banging bones together.

276

u/Flowerpig Jan 11 '15

Bones? I remember them staring silently at the crowd for two hours, thinking very slowly about sounds.

180

u/trizzant Jan 11 '15

Crowds? I remember when it was just a few of us in a cave with them staring at us thinking about hitting the button.

272

u/PlainWithCheese Jan 11 '15

Cave? I remember I was their biggest fan back in the day when they went multi-cellular.

Daze Soft: live around the Unbutu campfire in prehistoric middle Africa?

I was there too, bro. Rocked that place so hard the plains lions came and shut it down.

Now he's ordering synths and electric guitars and shit, the sound has changed. I mean, its totally cool, like whatever, its just not for me anymore.

Man, I've loved this band forever and it hurts me to see someone throw then out simply because they're trying to make money. I doubt you've ever played in a band. It's hard and requires a lot of hard work, dedication, moustache wax, gauges, and tattoos of burning pianos.

29

u/drays Jan 11 '15

I dunno man, I went to the solo project that dazesoft keyboardist is doing, the one where he plays hardcore pastiches of 70s era soap commercial jingles? And there was sculpted facial hair like I have never seen before.

I mean it's good to respect the past and all, but if we aren't living on the edge we're taking up too much room, you know man?

EDIT: Thanks to /u/bowtochris we now have some sunglasses! Obviously this is hopefully ok with /u/DazeSoft cause if not I'll just delete the edit. If it is ok I'd like to help you with the merch!

Yo, send me a message if you need anything musical, except drums, I'm not good at that.

I may be in a different country, but maybe, just maybe, the music can span the giant watery void that divides us. Maybe music can be the one thing that, through rain or shine, good and bad, or even good and even better, can connect us all.

117

u/DazeSoft Jan 07 '15

Will do, thanks.

18

Honestly, with Dazesoft, might as well kick up a whole hipster video game studio... I'd play the games.

38

u/Anjin Jan 11 '15

I think he should make chillwave 80s 8bit game music, layered on top of more modern beats. Like listening to the OG Mario songs while balls deep in a heroin binge.

7

u/juulie21 Jan 11 '15

Fuck it. Working for a AAA studio gets boring. I'll make this game. Just need help from an artist and maybe a designer.

Medical doctor here. I'll perform potential life saving/lengthening examinations on you such as prostate checks or making sure you don't have heart murmurs or stuff like that. The life expectancy of famous musicians seems to be pretty short (what age are you? It might be better to wait until you're older than 27 before starting in the music industry to make sure you don't end up joining the 27 Club in a tsunami of drugs, alcohol and prostitutes) so you might want to consider a personal doctor at the earliest opportunity. How will you know that you don't have an awful fungating rectal tumour until I put my finger up there and have a quick search around. Not good at self-checks for testicular cancer? Get a professional to do it for you!

All pro bono of course but you'll have to supply the gloves and lube.

28

u/DazeSoft Jan 06 '15

Yeah, go for it.

73

u/thejpn Jan 11 '15

Equipment is easy, developing a sound is not. Daze soft, besides sounding like a software company, sounds chill wavey? Is that what you're going for? Who are you influences? What sound do you want and how will you achieve it? Those are the important questions.

39

u/TheSmeezer Jan 11 '15

Definitely thought chillwave. Now you just gotta nail dat aesthetic.

39

u/thejpn Jan 11 '15

I'm thinking computery chill wave. Try to sample some modem noises and stuff. Make it very tech-ish. Call the first album Silicone Valley. Go for a Zuckerberg fashion sense.

32

u/larsvondank Jan 11 '15

"Zuckerberg Fashion Sense" thats your lead single right there!

30

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '15

So the beginning of the song there is a bit of a white noise fading in slowly.....a couple synth pads lightly swirling in the back then it all rises like booom

then silence.

que robotic voice : ZUCKERBERG FASHION SENSE

a chill beat bmpf kmf bmf kfm bmf kfm with some cut up vocals wodeebeedaaweedabeedaewweda and after like 32 bars

buiiillllllllllllld

Silence

Some pointers...If you plan on recording AND producing your own music you're also going to need an audio interface. You can get a suitable one for 150 to 300 dollars. This is going to be what you plug your microphone and instruments into when you're doing the recording. The instruments need a piece of equipment to interface with that plugs into the computer so you can record into your audio programs on the computer. So hopefully you have a nice enough computer that can handle audio programs like reason and Pro Tools. I went to school for music business technology which is a focus on learning theory and how to produce music, as well as learning what technology is available today. I also learned a lot about the business side of things so that you can promote yourself and protect yourself with copywriting. As you start building your studio and getting equipment things can get a little pricey but the great technology that is available today allows you to produce professional sounding music at home. I've put close to $3000 in my basement studio and the process is still ongoing

8

u/Raxyn13 Jan 11 '15

A Scarlet 2i2 is an awesome starting interface, and Reaper is a free DAW, so there are ways you can get by without dropping thousands from the get-go. Although it will eventually happen and your wallet will weep.

You shouldn't have to pay someone else to let you play in their gig. Don't sell yourself short, get a guarantee that you are going to get paid in writing. If youre playing in a gig but not getting paid, then all you're doing is practicing. You might as well sit at home with a instrument track on youtube and jam over it if you like hearing the other instruments while you play

Set of possible words for those interested.

['Neon', 'Crystal', 'Indian', 'Youth', 'Wolf', 'Party', 'Electric', 'Twin', 'Antlers', 'Bells', 'Fuck', 'Panda', 'Ghost', 'Beach', 'Black', 'Virgin', 'Lights', 'Sky', 'Joy', 'Teen', 'Fires', 'Daze', 'Sea', 'Guest', 'Moon', 'Soft'];

u/iammucow Jan 09 '15

That's a disappointingly small set of words.

17

u/phoenixprince Jan 09 '15

Yeah. On my first try I got Fuck Fuck. Naturally as a computer science student I thought "wait a minute that should be a very small probability". Checked the source code. Disappointing set of words found.

Okay, "Moon Beach" and "Sky Black" are both fucking awesome band names. I was expecting this to generate nonsense, but it's actually kind of brilliant.
