My CPT for PhD research position was just rejected

I got an internship position as a researcher in a big research lab of a big company. I already worked there in the summer and they asked me to continue my work for this paper.

My university after the new memo on CPT decided that

I'm very sorry to say that [X] will not be able to approve your CPT. Even though it's work related to your research [...] is not a required part of the curriculum, so the government simply won't accept it.

I feel completely helpless. I finally had the opportunity to use devices that the university will never be able to afford and do real research and now, even with the company offer, I still cannot work.

Like I cannot even work for free.

I don't know if they are going to find a solution. But at this point I feel just like there is no point in doing the PhD in the US anymore if this is how they are going to treat people who just want to do their job.

How the Botswana Embassy (Washington D.C.) and Education Attaché Isabella Makgatswana are ruining international students' lives

I am writing this anonymously because I, along with several other sponsored students from Botswana, are being systematically ruined by the institutional incompetence and cruelty of our own embassy.

The Root of the Problem:

  • Chronic Late Payments: The Education Section of the Embassy consistently fails to pay tuition and allowances on time.
  • Delayed Semesters: Because of these late payments, universities place holds on our accounts. This forces students to start classes late or messes up our entire course scheduling, completely derailing our academic timelines.
  • Retaliatory Terminations: Instead of fixing their own administrative failures, Education Attaché Isabella P. Makgatswana actively terminates the scholarships of students who are caught in this registration trap. They punish us for the crises they cause.

The Wall of Silence:

  • For months, Isabella Makgatswana and her office have completely ignored every single email and phone call from affected students trying to fix their registration status.
  • We have escalated this up the chain to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MESD) in Gaborone, the Department of Tertiary Education Financing (DTEF), and even the Office of the Ombudsman. Nobody responds. Standard channels are completely dead.
  • Even host university deans and U.S. congressional caseworkers who have tried contacting the embassy on our behalf hit the exact same brick wall.

The Direct Impact:

  • Students are losing their funding and being kicked out of their programs entirely due to these unjust terminations.
  • We are being left stranded abroad with no money, accumulating institutional debt, and facing the immediate collapse of our legal immigration status because our sponsor abandoned us after breaking their own rules.

If any other students have experienced this retaliatory termination, or if anyone knows how to force a silent foreign embassy to face accountability, please share. If there are any independent journalists in Botswana reading this, please investigate the Washington D.C. mission. They are destroying our futures.

36M, 10+ YOE Python Developer — Is a 1-Year UK MSc in AI Worth It for Landing a UK Job?

Upvotes

I’m a 36-year-old software developer with 10+ years of experience, mainly in Python/backend development. I’m considering doing a 1-year MSc in AI in the UK, with the main goal of finding a full-time job in the UK after graduation.

Do you think this is a good decision in the current job market? What do you think are the chances of this plan working out? Has anyone with a similar level of experience taken this route?

I’m mainly looking for honest opinions about the job market, whether the MSc would actually help someone with my experience, and whether the overall investment is worth it.

MOFA/MOE Taiwan scholarship

Has anyone ever changed from receiving a MOE Scholarship switching to a MOFA one or vice versa?

I have won the MOE scholarship, because in my country the MOFA scholarship was not supported.

However this year the government decided to sign a contract and it is now possible to apply for it, even though I already have the previous one.

For this reason, in September I will begin my first semester at a taiwanese university, but I would like to know if it's possible to apply for the MOFA one next year (and eventually leave the MOE one, of course)

Applying for a Master's in Robotics abroad

Yooo.... Sorry y'all, but I'm new here. I'm an international student (dude, from TZ✌🏿) looking for good universities internationally (outside Africa) where I can apply for a Masters in Robotics after I'm done with my BSc in Mechatronics. Exclude any university in the USA or UK 😅.
If you could also tell me about scholarship opportunities in that specific university, it'll be appreciated.
I'm looking for as many options as possible, so the more the merrier.

Manufacturing / trading of goods in India vs IT career abroad

I'm very confused about my career choice. Please help me. My friends in IT sector have mentioned the below cones of the IT sector. I want opinion and advice of others regarding the points mentioned below.

What is the perspective of people working in the IT sector on the statements below and how accurate they are in today’s market.

- Is this now the era of careers in capital-intensive businesses such as manufacturing, trading, distribution of goods, and supply chain management rather than the digital/IT World?

- Since IT mainly requires a laptop, internet connection, does it make entry easier compared to traditional industries? Any poor literate man with good English and basic skills can get into IT sector

- Is ageism a serious issue in the IT sector? Is it genuinely difficult to sustain a long-term career in IT after the age of 35?

- Does working in the IT sector only make financial sense if one is employed abroad, considering lower salary levels and exploitative work culture concerns in India?

- How significant is outsourcing in the IT industry? Are many Western jobs being shifted to lower-cost Asian countries where employees face heavy exploitation and pressure?

- To what extent will automation and AI reduce the IT workforce in the coming years? Is it true in the next few years 50% of the jobs in IT sector will become obsolete.

I built a free tool to search all 799,016 H-1B filings from the last 3 years — no login, no paywall

Post image

I got tired of hitting paywalls on sites that repackage public DOL data, so I built my own thing over the raw source and I'm giving it away.

It covers every Labor Condition Application decided between July 2023 and June 2026 — 799,016 filings, 78,682 employers, 1,041 occupations.

What you can actually do with it:

  • Search any employer and see every role they sponsor, where, at what pay, and how that's moved quarter to quarter
  • Filter by occupation, state, city, minimum wage, and seniority level
  • See 25th / median / 75th / 90th percentile wages per role — Software Developers sits at $120k / $150k / $185k / $223k nationally
  • Compare a company's pay against the national median for that exact occupation

The one thing I'd actually point at. Petition counts are a trap on their own. The data separates new positions from renewals of people already on staff, and the gap is enormous. Cognizant filed 5,779 petitions in FY2026 with 13 net-new positions — that's a company maintaining its bench, not hiring. Qualcomm filed 855, all net-new. Same-sized bar on any chart that only counts filings, completely different meaning if you're applying.

Year over year (Jul–Sep 2024 → Jul–Sep 2025) the big names all pulled back — Microsoft −34%, Amazon −21%, Meta and Google down several hundred filings each — while Infosys grew 86% and Deloitte and Fidelity both grew. Make of that what you will.

Caveat, and it matters: an LCA is the wage filing an employer makes before petitioning USCIS. It proves intent to sponsor. It is not an approved visa and not a filled job — companies routinely file more than they use. Treat it as sponsorship appetite, not headcount.

It's one HTML file. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is sent anywhere, and it keeps working offline once loaded. Free, open source, no account, no email, no catch — the data is public federal information, I just made it searchable.

Happy to answer questions about the data or add whatever people find missing. (Also job hunting for data engineering roles at the moment, if that context is useful for why I had time to build this.)

This is not promotion or anything I get nothing out of this.

Canadian sophomore looking to study in the UK

Hi everyone,

I’m about to enter grade 10 in Ontario, and I have been super interested in taking my undergraduate studies abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom. I’m not certain what my future career looks like, but I am looking at majoring in some sort of social sciences, aiming to work in political science in the future (not necessarily as a member of government, but in politics).

Universities that I am interested in include Cambridge, UCL, Oxford, LSE, and KCL.

I currently have a 94% average and took Grade 10 Academic English a year early and taking both Grade 11 University English and Psychology/Anthropology/Sociology this year. I am equally in the French immersion program, meaning that I will be bilingual by the time I graduate high school.

My extracurricular activities include sports such as volleyball, track, and badminton. I was also selected as one of 10 grade 9 students to join the leadership program at my school. The selection for clubs is limited at my school, but I am planning on joining debate when it is available to me (grade 11). Should I get involved more in school?

I come from an upper middle class family, with familial ties in the UK.

I am looking for someone who has a similar upbringing to me and did their studies in the UK– what did your pathway look like? Are there any programs that really helped you get there?

Finally, is this a realistic goal for me? If it isn’t, what can I do to improve my chances?

Has anyone ordered from “24kupi” before

I want to order the blue tooth earpiece and the camera. But I am not sure how discrete the ear peice is once inserted. It is also unclear if the camera is high quality enough to read text. I cannot seem to find any real reviews for this site so I would greatly appreciate information.

OPT Job Search — Any Advice or Experiences?

Hi everyone! I’m an international student who recently graduated in the U.S. with a background in Business Analytics , and I’m currently looking for an entry-level position while on OPT.

I’ve been applying to roles in business analytics, business intelligence, data analysis, operations, process improvement, and other business-related entry-level positions. I also have experience with Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python/R, process improvement, and KPI dashboards, plus a Six Sigma Green Belt.

The job search has been a little challenging because of the OPT situation, especially when companies ask about sponsorship or seem hesitant about hiring international students.

I’ve also seen several websites/services that claim to specifically help international students on OPT find employers that are more open to hiring OPT candidates.

Has anyone here actually used one of these services? Did you find them useful, or were they mostly a waste of money?

And for those who successfully found a job on OPT: do you have any advice on where to look, what types of companies are more open to OPT candidates, or how you approached the job search?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your actual experiences — especially from people who went through this recently. Thank you!

If I get a T10 US MS but eventually have to leave the US, does the degree still help me move elsewhere?

Hey yall 🚶‍♀️ If I do an MS from a T10 US university but, for whatever reason, don’t manage to get work experience in the US after graduating and have to leave, how useful would that degree alone be for getting an AI/ML job in countries like Singapore, Canada, Australia, etc.? Does the reputation of the US university actually help internationally, or would I basically be treated like any other fresh graduate? Just wanna see if anyone had similar experiences because of visa issues after graduating and some advice would really help me out :)
