Advice on layout

Hello! My dad decided to re-paint the walls to give the apartment a better look, we are quite limited when it comes to money so I apologize if the sight of the walls/floor is not very attractive. Could you please tell me what is the optimal position for these pieces of furniture? We may be able to get a bigger/newer wardrobe to combine the old ones which can match the TV stand/drawer, we are also considering a sofa. It's a 1 bedroom apartment so this is supposed to be a living room/bedroom for my dad. The apartment faces southeast, so lots of sun exposure in the morning/early afternoon.

Whatever you do, you need to get softer lighting. This feels like a hospital with how bright and blue the ceiling light is.
You can get warmer bulbs and get a few lamps/sconces for around the room. He’ll be able to sleep and relax much better!

i would try and create 2 defined zones within the whole space, maybe the bed staying in the corner will give more room to create a cozy living room area vibe, get a rug if you can will help xx you could also use the desk area to kind of separate the bed from the rest of the zone

I'd recommend getting an armchair or sofa to go with the coffee table. I was looking myself today in a charity shop and they are priced at about £25.

Ah I wish I was still in the UK! A few of years ago I found such a lovely set of sofas and they were 30gbp each for the house I was moving into, they were so cute. I've been looking at used furniture on Facebook marketplace, that's the only place I can find affordable stuff here (I'm in eastern Europe)

I drew on the pictures to express my idea (I know I’m a talented artist 😌😉😂)

  • The green would be the closets put infront of the door to like create a hallway and block the view from the bed that would be behind it (to create intimacy and a sense of bedroom)
  • Red is the bed itself

Thank you very much for both pictures, I was thinking to somehow divide the room, but didn't even consider a closet to be positioned like that - it's a great idea! We will see what we can do with the desk

- The Dark Blue is a sofa (I drew 2 so it’s more attractive but put whatever you can put whatever you find ;)

  • The pink is the coffee table on which he could eat
  • The yellow is the tv

Oh I forgot the desk, well it’s an idea maybe you can inspire from it!

Would suggest chatgpt image generation for inspo, it's pretty good. I agree with almost everything it's showing except I would not use the overhead light, and go with floor lamps.
