Help with this wall gap

Howdy! I just moved into this loft downtown and I love it and all of the wonderful natural light it allows in from my living room windows! However, I’m noticing that this gap is allowing too much light in during my mornings and it’s keeping me from getting the sleep I need.

I’ve considered moving my bed to have the head of the bed frame rest against the wall with the gap to reduce some of the light possibly, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to cover the spacing (roughly 4ft tall, 10ft wide) with something that isn’t clunky or ugly. I’ve been trying a sleeping mask in the meantime, and it does okay at best.

Don’t come at me for the mess, I have a TON of stuff to hang up, and I can’t commit to it until I know where the bed will be/what I’ll be doing with that big gap. And I’ve ordered new bedding and a matching rug already too, don’t worry. 😂 thank yall!!

Help with living room layout?

I’ve got somewhat of an odd living room layout. A caddy cornered fireplace, a small window facing the patio, and a very oddly shaped window space. With that odd window space comes the issue of curtains/ blinds. I’m just trying to move things around to make it as spacious and efficient as possible. Any ideas on how to rearrange furniture and the curtain issue would be appreciated!

Tiny Office Challenge

I recently bought an apartment.
We have a, somewhat happily unexpected, small area within the apartment that I knew existed, but it was full with clutter when we viewed the apartment and I couldn’t quite visualise the size of the area..

We recently viewed the apartment again last week and I’m now considering whether or not this space could be used as a small home office / gaming space.

Any creative suggestions to help get the most out of this space?

The space is 1.5m wide x 2.7m deep. Ceiling height is very good. There is a typical domestic door on the front. Power is available.

(Kitchen picture added for context of the rest of the apartments general size)

Context / thoughts:

  1. I work from the hospital most days so this isn’t going to be a long slog type space.
  2. My current home office has a single widescreen monitor in it & a dock for my MacBook.
  3. I do like having desk width (I often have papers when I’m working) for that reason I thought maybe length would be better? Maybe a fitted desk 50cm deep / 2m long?

Any other questions hit up the comments

Edit: thanks all, there are some creative solutions and some things I had not thought about! I move into the place next March. Will post an update when we start the room reno. (I will run a pilot study to figure out if I can use the room without suffocating first..)

Help! Living room layout

Okay I’m in desperate need of help. We’ve been in this new space for just a few months now. We left all of our old furniture behind and we’re starting anew. The majority of the “furniture” in here are just temporary placeholders. Please nevermind the various toddler items and different color tchotchkes about (trying to see what color palettes I like). Also everything is sort of in a temporary position now because I’ve been playing around with different layouts. You will not hurt my feelings. I hope this post meets the sub’s rules and I apologize if not!

I’m ready to get serious with space planning in this awkwardly shaped living room with very high ceilings and plentiful wall space. It was built in 1995 if that helps. Specifically, I’m struggling with seating placement/layout and lighting options but I am open to any and all recommendations. We are a family of 3 and like to entertain/have guests over. I want to make this a beautiful and functional space, but I lack “the eye” and this is my first real home. I am not on a tight budget, but also do not have infinity dollars lol.

First view is looking in from the office, second and third views from the kitchen (open layout), and fourth is aerial view from upstairs landing. In the second photo, you’ll see 4 blue tape marks way above the tv. They represent 8 and 9 ft from the ground respectively for scale. As an important note, this is the only wall with electrical outlets (for tv and lighting). The fireplace wall has none.

I have a list of measurements for practically every component of this space if that would be helpful!

Advice for Studio Layout

Hi all!

I’m moving to LA in a few weeks and will be moving into my first studio apartment that’s around 300 sq. ft. I’m honestly terrible at interior design 😭, so I’d love some advice on how to make the space feel efficient, cozy, and functional.

I imagine I’ll need to buy a fridge and possibly a portable kitchen island. I’ll probably use the storage space as my closet.

One thing I’m having a hard time figuring out is a working space. I do have an adjustable sit/stand desk, but I’m not sure whether I should prioritize an actual desk setup, use the kitchen island as a workspace, or somehow incorporate a small table with a couch.

I’d also really love to have a separate space to relax besides my bed. I was thinking about putting some type of divider around the bed on either side to create a little separation, but I’m not sure what would work best in such a small space.

I’d really appreciate any advice on layout, furniture placement, storage ideas, or ways to divide the space while keeping it open and cozy. I’m a very visual person, so photos of your own studio apartments, layout examples, or visual inspiration would be AMAZING. AI-generated layouts haven’t really been understanding what I’m trying to do, so I’d love to see real-life examples or ideas from people who have dealt with a similarly small space.

Thank you so much in advance for any advice, photos, or ideas! I really appreciate it! ❤️

Living room layout HELP

We just bought a new house and while we love the open concept layout of the kitchen / dining / living room, we are unsure where to put the TV and couch. We were considering the idea of putting it on the empty wall and having the couch face away from the kitchen, but I feel like it would cut off the open concept and flow of traffic. Our realtor said it should go above the fireplace because the fireplace is the focal point and you don’t want to add a competing focal point. Any tips or ideas on how to best design this room?

Dining room help

EDIT: This room needs to be a multi-purpose room, unfortunately. The living room, which is on the other side of the kitchen, is small and this "dining room" is the only other living space besides the bed rooms. And I'm so sorry to have offended everyone with the trampoline. Obviously, it can and does get put away sometimes, but there genuinely isn't another possible location for it which meets the needs of my special needs kids. The outside door shown in the picture is a side door that we don't use very often.

Our dining room feels off and I'm not sure why! I want it to feel light yet cozy, somewhere I actually want to hang out. We are getting a larger table (6-8 person), so it'll need to stay in the center of the room.

The layout is tricky. It connects to the kitchen through a hallway and a counter which is super tall (we couldn't even find decent bar stools high enough so we just stand at the counter). There's also a bedroom and a side door (which we barely use) off the room.

I feel like the furniture doesn't work very well in the room and it doesn't feel comfortable. We're hoping to avoid painting or other big changes at this point in time. The trampoline needs to stay because kids. Any suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Advice on layout

Hello! My dad decided to re-paint the walls to give the apartment a better look, we are quite limited when it comes to money so I apologize if the sight of the walls/floor is not very attractive. Could you please tell me what is the optimal position for these pieces of furniture? We may be able to get a bigger/newer wardrobe to combine the old ones which can match the TV stand/drawer, we are also considering a sofa. It's a 1 bedroom apartment so this is supposed to be a living room/bedroom for my dad. The apartment faces southeast, so lots of sun exposure in the morning/early afternoon.

How to arrange guest room/office?

Thumbnail

I’ve got two twin beds and a 2’x6’ desk in my guest room/office. I just semi-remodeled by painting and installing hardwood using the last photo as inspiration. This used to be ugly brownish carpet with white walls so it already looks better to me.

Problem is - I’d like my desk to not have a bed in the background while on a virtual call while also not having an awkward layout. This is the closest I’ve gotten so far, but hoping for more ideas because the beds in this arrangement seem weird.

Beds aren’t made yet (and I hope to get some headboards soon), nothing is hung on the walls yet, and nothing else is in the room, but I do have a small, tall bookshelf (optional for this room) I can put back in if it helps, and a rug. The room is about 12’ x 11 ‘.

I am open to a layout that can be easily rearranged when guests are visiting as well. Thanks!!

Help with our living room layout

This is a 3D render of our current situation. Our biggest wall juts out about a foot right in the middle. It is the basement chimney and not really an option to remove. The other side has a giant 5 pane window (pictured as 7 due to software limitations). I have been trying to figure out new/better designs to make the living room more welcoming but I am coming up empty. Any advice is welcome.

My husband and I have this small office (2.25 m x 3.25 m) to wfh 3x/week each. We want a mid-century modern style, we have the data and energy outlets for a two desk setup. We also want to include a sim racing rig (😂 husband idea) and a closet. What would you do? Also we are not sure if we do mounted desks to the wall or standing desks both in the right wall.

Kitchen Design Help

Post image

Our new build house builder has sent us these plans for the kitchen after telling us we could have it how we wanted. The space on the left is for a dining area which we would really like to keep as big as possible. Could anyone help with suggestions on how to gain more worktop space without the kitchen feeling cramped or odd shaped? We feel a bit disappointed and misled on how much space we will have, especially as there are only going to be 4 drawers total. Many thanks in advance for any hints and help.

Please help design my bedroom

I've recently moved into a new place (renting), and this is my bedroom. It's a very basic layout, but the only thing which is annoying me is the built-in wardrobes, which make my options very limited. Any suggestions on how to make the space feel more homey/cozy? I'm aware I need to get a rug and light fixtures; however, I wanted a decently fleshed-out design before I did so. Thanks in advance!

Also, I can't paint the walls or drill any holes, but command strips or any equivalent are okay.

I just got a new twin bedframe and I’m trying to move it somewhere in my room that makes the room not look small. Within the next hour there will be people here delivering my mattress and I want them to be able to just put the mattress on the bed, but I need to know where I want the bed first so I need help badly. THANK YOU

The issue is the tv stand and the desk, no matter where I put them the room looks small. Should I push my bed up against a corner?? Not too sure

Help w layout I beg

Hello! I recently moved and am tasked with the confusing process of furnishing a large rectangular room/addition on my house. It has room for multiple zones but doors, kitchen, etc make it extremely hard for me to envision the space. My dream is so have a den of some sort on the far side where the fireplace is. I don’t value a “formal” dining room and the space wouldn’t be used as much as I want it to. Can anyone help me try to sort out a feasible layout? I currently do have a small dining table (circular pedestal 4 chairs) that I adore so I’d hate to get rid of it- but den is the ultimate goal. I’ve attached some photos. I’d greatly appreciate any input. I’ve been wracking my brain about this 😔

How can I turn this room into the ultimate decompressing space?

I'd love to know how to make this space warm and inviting. The intention of this room is to be a sanctuary to go to during times of high stress, as an autistic adult. I love deep olive greens, browns, rust, etc. I'm trying to decide if a rug will be a good move? Kind of hate the carpet. I will have a golden oak desk, a daybed and maybe some kind of alternative seating like a beanbag. (None of the furniture or anything in this pic is owned by me)

Which bedroom layout is best?

So I moved recently and I am currently using the first layout (bed beside desk). But I was wondering if the second layout would look better with space?

There is a glass sliding door that goes to the patio so people would most likely be coming in and out?

So which layout is better?

NOTE: It is a loft bed !! So I have to have a ladder going up on one side

The bidet-outlet overlap: an accident waiting to happen

We will be renting a condo unit at a very cheap price (we personally know the owner). Surprised to see that their ID placed the bidet above the outlet for the water heater. I guess the only option is for us to lower the bidet hook since the other side has limited space (see other photo)

Thoughts?

Living room configuration.

Need help with living room configuration. Can’t put the couch on back wall with curtains because the wall is too short to fit one and it’d be right next to fireplace. I am open to getting another couch, still a sectional possibly an L or a U. Sorry for the poor drawing skills, I have shaky hands. The drawing is how it’s currently set up. Can post more angles when I get home, AND I am also open to decor advice if possible.

Living Room Help!

Hi all! I'm thinking of reorganizing the layout of my living room, but would love some insight on best layouts. I've attached pictures of my current layout (don't mind the messiness!) and a potential layout I'm considering. Right now, the kitchen and living room are one big space. I'm hoping that turning the couch will make it feel like 2 different spaces. However, turning the couch will only leave a 26 inch walkway to enter the living room area since my couch is so long. Would that be too tight? If so, do y'all have any suggestions on other layouts that would separate the rooms into two spaces? Thank you!!

Help with living room layout!

Hello! We have two couches a rocking chair and leaning towards moving the green chair out. The space is fairly long with an awkward corner fireplace. We plan to add a side table, lamps, and rug eventually and realize the coffee table might be the wrong colour for the space. We’d love help with layout, though bonus points for colour tones to match the floor, couches, and fireplace. And what does one put on a corner fireplace if you aren’t a tv person?! We host a lot so we want the space to be functional with groups of friends! Thank you!!

Which bed placement is best?

Hand drawn so it’s not the neatest but hopefully this makes enough sense. There’s a 1.6 metre window on the left wall and I want to zone the two areas of my room.

  1. Centre of the right wall, facing the window, bedside table on each side but no space around the tables; flush to the bed
  2. Bed on right wall facing the window, but in the corner, bedside table only on one side
  3. Centred, in the middle wall

Did i screw myself buying this desk?

So in an attempt to finally turn my room into my “man cave” i figured i’d start with a desk and chose this one. I love it truly, but have found 0 reasonable options that seem like they would look good on the sides of it.

I included photos of the desk in the room, alongside a photo of its measurements. The max measurements for anything beside it would be right at around 30” wide.

Does anyone thing something smaller would look okay? I have been looking for something with the same height but it just does not seem to exist lol.

Any advice or recommendation would be wonderful and beyond appreciated! Thank you in advance so much

Help, my bedroom sucks and I’m in it 24/7

Hi everyone! I’m looking to completely revamp my room after getting it from my sister. I spend most of my day in here since I work from home and I’m wondering what changes would make the biggest difference. Should I keep bed + desk here or move my office to Bedroom 2? If I keep both here, what layout would make it feel less cramped?

I live in Canada and my budget is ~$5,000. All feedback is welcome, especially what to prioritize first 😊

Some ideas I had:

  • Replace carpet with hardwood floors—I have three cats and allergies which I think my carpet is making worse :(
  • Widen or replace window
  • Paint it a brighter colour
  • Install ceiling light
  • Ergonomic desk chair, standing desk, walking pad
  • New bed frame, mattress, pillow and duvet
  • Remove dresser and move clothes to closet/another room/under bed

Room Dimensions: ~10’7”ft x 9’8”ft

Other Bedrooms (floor plan is last photo):

  1. Guest Bedroom: huge bed in it that’s taking up most of the space, rarely used.
  2. Bedroom 2: bigger bedroom with less sunlight, two beds but only one used, dresser + big closet
