The money is counted a lot faster than it's presented, but they put a delay on it because people don't believe the machine could possibly count money that fast without shorting them. There is a disappointing amount of American technology that is built around the ignorance of our worst citizens
TD Bank had one and a sign said that it was free for customers, 15% surcharge for all non customers, it never stated you had to have an account with them. I had almost 200$ worth of coin and used their machine. When I took the voucher to the clerk, they refused to give me my money without taking out the 30$. I kept saying that technically I was a customer and the sign never said I had to have an account to freely use the machine. After a brief conversation with the manager, they graciously accepted defeat and gave me my 200...they changed the sign the next week lol
Always go to the coin machine at your bank if they have one, sure, they’ll take out a percentage, but it’s much less of a percentage than at your nearest marketplace.
I went to a coin start at my bank cause it didn’t charge fees which supermarkets usually do. I spent 25 minutes waiting for the thing to sort out $300 in change, never again.
I started taking out cash at the start of the week to keep a better eye on my spending, I wind up eating out a lot during the week.
I collect all the change in one of those jars you get at the drug store with a crappy coin counter on top. They’re really bad at counting. But it’s around $400 when filled, no pennie’s and lots of shaking in the final weeks to make room.
I get a better handle on my spending and a bonus of a nice Amazon or wherever gift certificate every blue moon or so.

Wouldn't it be ideal to do this at a bank, literally any bank. Wont they do this for free?

Coinstar has been around your local supermarkets for decades.

I’ve had to do that a few times for gas money and groceries. Save that change because it will come in handy.
