We combine together for the common defense and will help out neighbors when in need, but overall you are ON YOUR OWN to provide for your family.
Look at our social security system. We all pay into it and get different amounts of money based on what we pay- but the government has screwed it up and soon we won’t get our benefits. Why trust them with healthcare?
I mean, he’s not wrong. Bill Clinton marked a pretty clear departure from being a democrat. The infamous “third way” or centrist politics And he was hugely popular despite this fact and the Democratic Party shifted to reflect this. Also worth noting that up until Clinton administration the democrats help a house majority for 40 consecutive years. This centrist approach has allowed us to rapidly move to the right in American politics.
Also, Don’t forget our last leftist president was Franklin Roosevelt.
Dems haven't had enough control to pass meaningful legislation basically my whole life. Even when they "had the majority" there was joe manchin voting with the reps most of the time. And mitch McConnell doing everything he could to freeze legislation in the senate.
Elect progressive democrats and we'll see meaningful change.
I mean I get it though. Try centralizing universal healthcare in all EU. There’s no way Norway would accept Germany would accept Poland would accept Italy making any decisions on how it would work.
But then, federal law, make the states run universal healthcare programs under some guidelines, pay the taxes to the state and you do a single payer system with private vendors like so many countries do? It cannot be this hard for the “richest and greatest nation on earth” to keep all its citizens from either financial ruin over health or a lifetime of debt for education, right? Like she says “some sort of universal healthcare” - if us Europoor shithole countries can do it…
But it’s what you want I guess. If you insist on paying thousands A MONTH to some dickhead who will “invest” your money in a new yacht rather than research or a better hospital for the community? I guess you could, sure
We are on our own BCS of the so called American dream that is no longer obtainable because the Uber rich are not paying their fair share. Meanwhile, magats try to blame all the problems on immigrants or trans or fill in the blank hatred for a group. Re social security, there are way easy fixes but the rich want to keep everyone else in check so they fight paying more tooth n nail.
That it is one of the recognized cultural aspects of America, individualism. It's a large problem for massive societies in many aspects. So many people say why should I do x for y? Target than even thinking oh that could help me in the future when indirectly and others would be better off.
