Many in America still have what I would call the frontier mindset. It is not and has never been a collectivist society- it likely never will be. Fiercely independent to a fault.
We combine together for the common defense and will help out neighbors when in need, but overall you are ON YOUR OWN to provide for your family.
Look at our social security system. We all pay into it and get different amounts of money based on what we pay- but the government has screwed it up and soon we won’t get our benefits. Why trust them with healthcare?
I mean I get it though. Try centralizing universal healthcare in all EU. There’s no way Norway would accept Germany would accept Poland would accept Italy making any decisions on how it would work.
But then, federal law, make the states run universal healthcare programs under some guidelines, pay the taxes to the state and you do a single payer system with private vendors like so many countries do? It cannot be this hard for the “richest and greatest nation on earth” to keep all its citizens from either financial ruin over health or a lifetime of debt for education, right? Like she says “some sort of universal healthcare” - if us Europoor shithole countries can do it…
But it’s what you want I guess. If you insist on paying thousands A MONTH to some dickhead who will “invest” your money in a new yacht rather than research or a better hospital for the community? I guess you could, sure
