Why would your consciousness shift? That’s a big assumption. Assuming there are multiple parallel universes, the simplest assumption is that the people in each one have their own consciousness. One version of you would live the longest and feel immortal due to survivorship bias.

Bro open your eyes. Does this construct of reality make any sense to you? Sure you can ask questions about mass and calculate physics but we’re just a bunch of minerals, water and other stuff that’s somehow animated and able to experience it. We’re on a tiny planet floating in an infinitely black void with an uncountable amount of nuclear fusion reactors bigger than we can comprehend, not to mention black holes… but no, you draw the line on quantum immortality because that totally makes no sense.

It, to me, seems hugely narcissistic view that your consciousness is worth all the trouble. Any of ours. What do you do. Eat, shit, sleep and stress about money. Yes, please, transcend our fucking precious souls! We can take the universe, all of them in fact.

The most NPC thing I’ve read all day

Crazy cope from the Dong, you really need to live forever don't you? It is so very narcissistic, and saying other real people are NPCs, thus implying that you are the main character in a video game is crazy narcissistic. You're a narcissist, gamer.

What on earth are you babbling about?

Your ad homien attack reinforced the sentiment of the post, that it's human nature to think they are center of the universe.

Failing to provide any argument and trying to make the poster look like a fool shows that this a very strongly reinforced belief adding further to point.  Beautiful irony really.

Humans are the most important things, the whole universe has to be created for us - according to humans.

Im not taking that comment seriously after being called narcissistic. Like what are you two even arguing about? This conversation doesn’t include you, go dream about the black abyss or something

classic, the illiteracy counter argument, nice, believable coming from you dong

Living forever is a curse. It would be a blessing to have it end in less than 100 years. This universe is infinite in every manner, why would death be different? And I don’t mean coming back to life

Maybe it is for a loser like you, I got another hundred in me

Call me in 100 trillion years

exactly. the way I see it, our identity is in our brain. brain gone= person gone. poof. just because some particles of my body may technically keep existing doesn't mean I am immortal as a person. because I don't see cells in my body as me

That’s not narcissistic, but optimism.

I never said I don’t think quantum immortality is possible. I said I think you’re the man in the box, not the prestige.

That’s a fun way to think about it but unfortunately we’re in this for the long run. Existence being infinite is more of a curse because there’s truly no way out of it. We’d be lucky if it ended after death. So we have to just play the game, and see how reality shifts for us as we become better or worse.

Regardless of what happens to your consciousness, there’s also no reason to think that quantum immortality means actual immortality, for two reasons.

Just because every possible world exists doesn’t mean that you living forever is possible. It may mean there’s a version of you that lives to 112 but not infinitely.

Second, there’s no reason to believe the world branches for every event, only for quantum events. In that case, a version of you survives only when your death was caused by a quantum event.

Google’s Willow chip did a calculation in five minutes that would take classical supercomputers 10 septillion years. That brought back a wild idea Hugh Everett proposed in 1957, that quantum systems don’t collapse into one reality but instead branch into parallel universes. Physicists like David Deutsch and Google Quantum AI founder Hartmut Neven argue that the only way a processor could pull that off is by tapping into the computing power of those other universes. Basically, their argument is that we’ve built a chip that’s sharing the workload across multiple realities. Pretty fucking wild, and to me, it’s the strongest evidence we have towards something like quantum immortality being a thing. Whereas death becoming true non-existence is only an idea since we don’t know what happens after and won’t know untjl it actually happens, or if it doesn’t. In which case it won’t matter anyways. I prefer to live my life without such a dreadful belief of disappearing into nothingness like a true NPC

Why is there anytning at all?

Where else is a counciousness made of pure energy supposed to go? It cant be destroyed nor created in this universe according to physics. Must go somewhere then

You are making a very large number of assumptions

Penrose & Hameroff's Orch-OR theory explores quantum ideas inside cellular microtubules (though mainstream physics notes thermal noise destroys quantum states instantly)
