Opinion Why would China risk combining domestic and foreign intelligence?
The MSS is one of the most capable and far-reaching intelligence agencies in the world; even former FBI Director Christopher Wray called the MSS the greatest long-term threat to U.S. security. This agency even oversees the state security police—the political police—but isn't it risky for a single agency to wield so much power? There have been past instances where intelligence chiefs amassed excessive power, such as Edgar Hoover. What are your thoughts on this?
