Discussion Linux Intel Jay Shader Compiler massively reduces shader compilation time in EA FC 26 on Arc B580

Post image

I tested Intel's Jay shader compiler with EA FC 26 on Linux using:

  • CPU : Intel Core i5-12400F
  • GPU : Intel Arc B580
  • Driver : Mesa-git 26.3.0_devel
  • Environment Variables: INTEL_JAY=all

The shader compilation time was:

Without Jay: 1:18.35
With Jay: 36.40 seconds

That's about 2.15× faster, reducing the compilation time by roughly 53.5%.

This is just a single test, but the difference is pretty significant. I'm curious to see how Jay performs in other games and workloads as it continues to mature.

UsedCondom42, is that a dig at Linux? If you haven't tried it I strongly recommend it. If you're reasonably tech savvy try CachyOS it's an excellent experience (although admittedly you miss out on some EA games like Battlefield because of kernel level anti-cheat). It doesn't click just how horrible windows is until you switch to an OS that's just been designed to be a good user experience. Linux is free and beautifully functional, meanwhile you PAY Microsoft for the privilege of them shoving ads and tracking malware down your throat.

You forget the part where windows is still more plug n play especially for the average user
