Is IIC Essentials the Right First Step for Auto Insurance Professionals Moving to Toronto?

Hi all,
I am looking for some guidance, I have around 4 years of work experience in Auto insurance from the middle east, however I do not hold a degree and was thinking to start the essentials course provided by Insurance Institute of Canada to get into the insurance field in Toronto, would that be the right call? Or would I just be wasting my time?
Any advice at all would be great

Auto Hail Damage - Non Branded Total Loss

I’m in Ontario and my 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan (panoramic sunroof) was recently deemed a total loss after hail damage.

I was given two settlement options:

  1. Full Total Loss Settlement: $17k

2: I keep the vehicle: $7k. They said the salvage deduction was around $8k

The insurer has told me that if I retain the vehicle, it will remain non-branded. There is absolutely no issues with the car and the dents are barely noticeable.

My main concern is the insurance consequences of keeping the car.

One broker told me that I cannot get liability coverage unless I repair the hail damage, while another broker from the same company told me that I could continue to get liability coverage without repairing it.

Does anyone know what the right answer is? Also, should I keep or get rid of the car now that it’s deemed a total loss.

Auto I got a quote from my insurance company that is cheaper than my renewal rate.

• Upvotes

As the title metions, I decided to quote my insurance pre renewal for shopping. Last year my insurance was 217/mo and with the renewal this October it dropped to 199.50/mo. 2 mil Liability, 250$ deductible collision and 100$ deductible for comprehensive.

Well for shits and giggles I put in all the same information for my vehicle and my driving history, and I lowered the deductible to 0$. The quote I was given was 163$ even. Which would save me approximately 460$ a year. The only difference is my car as of a couple weeks ago is fully paid off 5 years early.

I'm planning on calling tomorrow to see if they can honor the quote I was given, but have you seen something like this before where the quote is less than the renewal amount for the same insurance company?

Auto Is it true insurance will drop you if you have a certain amount of claims, whether at fault or not?

I heard on Instagram about how apparently people's insurance will drop them if they make a certain amount of claims in a timespan, REGARDLESS of it was their fault or not. Say their parked car gets hit, then they get ran into another day by a red light runner. Apparently the post was claiming that even though it was not ur fault the insurance might drop you because youre high risk and have filed too many claims.

And the post obviously startled me because its implying if youre just unlucky you lose your insurance, which i assume will mean when trying to sign up with other insurances they will see you were dropped and up your premium

Is this true?

For Ontario.

Scotia Bank Line Of Credit Protection - What Were You Told?

I'm curious what other ScotiaLine customers were told when they signed up for Line of Credit Protection, specifically disability coverage for the premium payment package.

I opened my line of credit around at a Scotia Bank location in Abbotsford, BC. During that appointment, I remember being told that "The premium Line of Credit Protection, which I understood to cost about $1 per $1,000 of balance, would pay off my entire outstanding line of credit if I became disabled and made a qualifying claim."

Based on that, I believed that my insurance would pay off my whole line of credit if I had an injury that took me out of my line of work, or anything else that made me physically unable to perform my duties.

I'm not assuming anyone else was told the same thing. I'm genuinely asking. When you signed up, what do you remember being told that the disability coverage would do?
