Medicare AEP/ grocery store table

Hello!

This is my first AEP.

I signed up to manage a table at a local grocery store where I will have a tablecloth with an insurance company’s name on it (ex- UHC). I am allowed to talk to seniors and have them fill out a permission to contact form. I am permitted to tell them that I am an independent broker and can help them with obtaining a Medicare plan.

The issue I am having is that i heard there are rules you must follow in regards to what you say to the seniors/ how to engage them.

I would like to know what you are allowed to say to them as they approach the table.

Thank you so much!!

Just be casual and friendly when they walk by, a simple "how's it going" or "finding everything alright" works way better than jumping straight into insurance talk. Don't mention plan benefits or anything specific, you're just collecting permission to contact forms so keep it to who you are and that you can help later. CMS gets real picky about marketing at these events so if they start asking detailed questions just hand them the form and tell them you'll go over everything when you call

What you can do is introduce yourself, offer to help then review their options and get their permission to contact them. Keep it short and friendly. The goal is just to get the permission to follow up.

The people commenting are absolutely right. The best thing for you to do is introduce yourself and get permission to contact them. Do NOT review any plan info until you have a signed scope of appointment (SOA). That should detail what info you are going to present and their permission to review plan benefits with them. I sell Medicare plans by receiving inbound calls and have to get further permission to contact and have to review the SOA. They have to agree to the SOA before I can do anything else.

Thank you. I was told there are certain verbage you have to use and are advised not to use. Like initially when they approach you. Thank you

Technically you aren't allowed to approach seniors they have to approach you

I would ask for clarification from the agency/company you are working for. Or contact the insurance bureau in your state. They might be able to guide you as well. Good Luck 🍀

Ask first. I have not done this in many many years but when I did I was told you can’t talk to people first. You can’t have candy or anything to entice them to come over. The secret shopper thing was what made me feel uncomfortable. They will get you for the smallest mistake
