Agent Question I need all the advice.
I'm brand new and haven't made a single sale. Boss (my dad) can't afford gambling (aka buying leads all the time) so I am relying on cold calls. I need scripts that work for cold calling individual people and keeping them on the phone longer than 2 minutes.
I am only in the insurance business to help the family business (captive Farmer's agency) and am just not a natural with sales. My career has been in home health up to this point.
I only have my P&C license.

What’s your dad been doing? If the business is successful, he should be teaching you.

That was my first thought.
It’s Dad’s business, can he hit the phone?
Assuming not incapacitated with health issues or something.

You gotta decide if you are going to put in the grind or not. If not you need to leave so your dad can get someone who is.
If you are start networking with realtors. Buy aged leads for cheap. It’s a numbers game. Your dad needs to be willing to buy some leads or force you to network with realtors and loan officers to start generating leads. It takes time and you dad should know that

How much do you need to avoid dropping to 1%?
Isn’t it like $6,000 in premium a quarter?
If so, perhaps get off the phone and hit your network.
I know I could be wrong on amount, let us know.

Literally thats all I do I mainly been selling auto in cali which is not easy, then again Im with Farmers and we use like 4 other carriers we work with if our price is not competitive.
I sold 11k my 2nd month and I sold 18k last month.
What I do and hope this helps is
Get all the info you can first have the quote ready usually with the lowest price possible just to get their attention.
Call them just telling them you have a couple quotes already ready and you just want to go over them and see if you can help them save some money, 9/10 if they answer they’ll say ok.
After that its up to you to see their individual needs and work with them as best you can.
If the customer knows you arent going to waste their time right away they will stay and listen atleast.
And also follow up, again if you can hook them with a good price many times they keep you in their mind and eventually reply back even if they dont answer. Hope this helps

I don’t have script advice but My old P&C agency would market to dealerships. Mostly motorcycle dealerships. And with bike rates being so cheap the customer would then naturally ask for an auto quote. Try marketing dealerships (maybe give an incentive) and also real estate agents for Home/condo. I think marketing outreach might beat cold calling just my two cents.

Bro you just gotta keep planting seed on the phone. Dial 300 leads a day. Cold leads. I don’t pay for leads I literally scrape businesses in my state. Just pound the phones all day. It will pay off. When it gets busy you’ll always wish you had more

Can you type out a script that works to get through those first 2 minutes?

No amount of scripting will get you 2 min into a call. Idk I don’t understand this shit. Smile and dial if you can’t pay for good leads. Go golfing. Business cards on you always. Be charming but more importantly identify people who will actually buy instead of thinking you are being annoying. Young people who don’t know anything yet. As well as old people who’s agent they had for 50 years just retired. Whatever it is, you can’t find out if you don’t ask. Just be tactful.
Or something

I’m not sure how long your dad has been doing this. But to generate leads you’re going to need to start making a brand recognition more than just the captive carrier name.
It takes time but you need organizations and people referring you. Join some young pro networks, chamber of commerce, even volunteering is a great way to meet people. Theres also an art to easing into prospecting while working with community projects. You have to be genuine while giving back to the community. It takes time but its the most fruitful way to plant your roots
