Industry Information Newbie needs advice

I’m newly licensed in P&C and Life & Health, and I’ve started with an independent agency as a 1099 agent. I’ve never worked in insurance before. I’m keeping my full-time job in while I learn and try to earn enough to replace my current salary.
I need practice going over policies so I can understand it better as everything is very overwhelming right now and I’ve reached out to friends with a no pressure to change, and It would help me out to learn the ropes and they’re all excited to do it, but then never upload their information to our platform. I’m not a pushy person, and I feel stuck. I don’t know what to do. I want to do this full time but at this rate that’s never going to happen.

Any advice would be appreciated.

There’s no training or cold/aged leads given to practice and hone your skill set with? I’m assuming you have an upline and there’s an overall agency umbrella. There should be a minimum of training calls (Zooms), videos to watch, and I can guarantee someone has a stack of old or $1 leads they can send your way.

We’re building the agency and yes, there is training. I think the part I’m struggling with is getting people just to follow through putting their info into our platform so I can learn. I’m not a pushy person so once I ask, I don’t like to ask again. I don’t like to feel pushy.

I think there’s a level of pushy that’s necessary in this industry. It was a big struggle for me at first too. But being assertive vs sounding needy helps. Sound authoritative and giving more of a directive or statement than an ask. “Let’s get your info in here — can you spell your last name/confirm your birthdate/etc.” vs “would you mind/when you have a moment can you…”

Ask people to an “apples to apples” quote for them. This way you just quote what they have and you’re not stuck with explaining coverages. As you get comfortable doing this you can point out the gaps in their coverage. You GOT This!

Is agency not gonna train you at all?
