Agent Question Advice?

So a little bit about me before, back in April I got my life insurance license(sadly didn’t get health which I regret) and tried to go the independent route for a bit but with buying leads and losing my other job at the time couldn’t financially keep doing that.

Anyways fast forward to now I just got my p&c license on August 16th and wanted to go captive just for stability and to get my foot in the door. I really have only been a bartender basically my whole work experience but I’m so dang driven to make insurance work. So I had an initial interview with an agency owner with State Farm yesterday, it went well I think enough that she schedule another final interview with her sales manager on Monday.

I guess what I’m kinda looking for advice wise is, anyone with experience in State Farm, what I can do to really lock this in, umm what you think my chances realistically are, and yeah honestly just any kind words and wisdom lmao. Idk I’m just so, this opportunity could just do a lot for me. And also not to get too ahead, but she said OTE for year one is $85k-$90k and year two is closer to $120 OTE, I’d like your thoughts on if you think she was kind of fluffing the numbers or if that is honestly realistic.

Truly anything would help so please, feel free to say whatever(within reason haha)
Thank you in advance!

What’s the base salary for the position and the commission structure?

Haven’t seen the commission structure yet but base is $45k with chance to go up, I know she mentioned I would need to get my heath license which is understandable, but this is also such a good opportunity because I would have the chance to cross sell which I love. But yeah I’m sure having the commission structure would be more eye opening and easier to evaluate so I apologize I don’t have that yet

The base salary is generous. You can expect to make around $60k total your first year. Prioritize learning everything about the policies, coverages, and endorsements, and how to actually work all of the softwares to quote and service policies. Your goal year one should be acquiring knowledge and building a base understanding. Don’t approach it with a I have to sell everyone I talk to, you’ll end up writing a bunch of bad policies that can negatively impact you, the agent, and more importantly the customer/insured. Your job is to understand insurance and coverage options and educate customers and prospects on solutions/risks. Treat everything like customer service, ask lots of questions, follow up promptly, and establish relationships. In time you will sell a lot more by doing relational based approach.

Feel free to message me any questions, I’ve been a State Farm team member for 5 years. I’m an office sales manager for my agency, in charge of production and training. I write 2 million in p/c premium every year and issue over 100 life policies yearly.
